Famous(??) line from a 1970's (USA) movie.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT9BeGNnCqw

So I got all of my games downloaded...... from DotEmu... LOL. (Less than 50, but Silverfall EA should count as 50 all by itself.... geez). I would definitely need a bigger boat... err... internets to do all of my GoG games (screenshot). Please GoG don't go away until after I do, OKAY???

Anywho, it's got me thinking about all of these different places I've got games.... and.... well.... I want to go ahead and get ALL of them from all of those "small" places and then just exclusively shop at GoG. I used to pretty much do that, but there was a two or three year period where I wasn't sure GoG was as committed to it's stated principles as they originally were, and thus for that period I did "shop around" quite a lot.

And I know for a fact I've forgotten some places. So, could you good folks here at Gog maybe just post an online game store that comes to your mind in this thread and let me take a look there to see if I have an account or games?? I've got gog, Steam, and Green Man Gaming down on my list, and I know I'm missing the name of one that I was at just a few weeks ago but my memory is so bad I've forgotten it already. Plus, I'd bet there's more.

Sorry for such a stupid request, but the folks here are pretty sharp when it comes to online gaming stores (well, truth be told, the folks here are petty sharp about pretty much everything, which is kinda cool).

Thanks for any help.

I see... so you like to "shop around". Sorry but I've just seen the Lego Batman movie and this made me laugh.

FireFlower
IndieGameStand
HumbleBundle
itch.io
GamersGate
Bundle Stars
IndieGala

These are the stores I check out occasionally, just in case there is a ridiculously good deal on any of them. I stopped following the deals on GreenManGaming, since i discovered that some games require their client, on top of STEAM.

GAMERSGATE!!! LOL, that'sthe one that I was at just a few weeks ago. I've got quite a few there. THANK YOU!!!!

And yeah, I think I remember now that's also why I stopped buying from GMG too, because they had games requiring their own client.

Anyway, thanks again very much. I've got games in all but two of those you mentioned (although some aren't really games to download, they're just Steam Codes. But, forgotten is forgotten LOL. I need to gather all this stuff in one place and figure out what the heck is still good and what isn't.

I'm a mess....
Well, there is also the dodgy keyseller sites like g2a. I also brought a fair bit direct from developers - Strategy First, Longbow Games spring to mind. Oh and Groupees is another.

However I always download anything immediately as I have zero trust in any site so prefer my own backups. How you can get away with saying this "two or three year period where I wasn't sure GoG was as committed to it's stated principles as they originally were" after recent events though :oO

Silverfall EA is one of the games I really wanted to get as only DotEmu had it, but I missed it. Now can't find it anywhere and without it Silverfall is pretty useless, grrr.

I don't think I understand your question, but I'll try and answer.

There was a period a few years ago where they turned on regional pricing (for all games), began to go more toward the newer games, and some other things that made me wonder how committed they were to the principles that they stated on their front page (I guess they still do???? Not sure now LOL).

Now I get that the "fix" for the regional pricing is still..... regional pricing, but, IMO, their policy of reimbursement with some store credit (I think that's what they did or maybe my memory is failing again) is pretty good, and in fact, don't know of any other store that "fixes" the injustice of regional pricing in any way.

And during a lot of discussions at the time they really hit home their commitment to DRM-Free, which is the number one principle IMO anyway. So, I went from borderline happy customer to being back to a full fledged happy customer.

Well, most of the time anyway.

Anywho, is that what you were asking?? If not sorry.
Another game store, besides the one already mentioned, is WinGameStore. Just steam keys and hardly ever a discount that's better than you get elsewhere, but once I got a game there as it was lower than everywhere else, I forgot which one (and am too tired to look it up).

For a good overview of stores, see the stores listed with any game in isthereanydeal.com

I assume that you want to avoid STEAM, because otherwise you can find Silverfall and its expansion there. From DotEmu I was also interested in Loki(a hack and slash game) which is also available on STEAM.

Yep, certainly do want to avoid Steam. I got Loki, just in time as it happens.

Nah, things haven't changed, been going this way since the times you mention. Regional pricing is here and norm, indev now here and norm, conveyor belt of rubbish check, galaxy check etc. They patched a few holes along the way but its only a stay of execution IMO.

Amazon

Any possibility that you bought games directly from a developer or their publisher?

How can you even doubt that? :)
(118 UPDATED)
It is time to backup all your GOG offline installers, before GOG become more and more evil.

I'm not understanding your comment. But yeah, I ignore all of those "update" things because I used to spend X hours looking desperately all over these forums to determine what the specific updates were and in a vast, vast, majority of them they were just so...... minor.... that it felt like a waste of time to keep checking them. Things like... Linux support added.... two new languages added.... soundtrack improved.... etc. etc.

Is it really important to re-download all of them? Geez, that's over 10% of my whole library... lol

Only a couple, and I've got those down. I'm hoping I've got all of the stores too. But.... I dunno. Damn memory is completely shot.

I've said this before but it's still relevant.... My grandfather (my father's father) spent the last several years of his life wandering the halls of a nursing home with dementia so bad he was completely "gone." You couldn't communicate with him... nothing. Just...gone.

Then my father spent the last several years of his life wandering the halls of a nursing home with dementia so bad he was completely gone too.... Damn the pain of looking right into your fathers eyes and seeing... nothing. No recognition whatsoever.

I fear I know where I'm headed and my memory problems are only going to get worse.

But, I'm NOT THERE YET DAMMIT!!! LOL, and I wanna play as many games as I can before I swallow my "get of jail free card" (or in this case "get out of spending the last several years of your life with severe dementia free card)..

LOL. I wasn't sure how "famous" it was outside the USA. I know it's pretty well known here though. But these GoG forums are populated by more non-USians than USians... at least I think they are.

I saw that movie in the theater when it came out, and was on a date.... and when that head popped out of that hole underwater.....

well, let's just say my date wasn't impressed with my ability to keep my cool. We both jumped about three feet in the air it felt like.

ADDED: Anyone interested in this game?

I believe nightcrawler is referring to the fact that the only principle GOG is now adhering to is DRM-free. And in light of recent events, that may eventually be on the chopping block as well...

A while ago I did a recent post on "this issue" and I really considered it was safest to "scatter" games; not all over the place but you have to keep track. I personally believe it's a good choice, although GOG clearly is, for a lot of reasons I can't think of, the best one by far ;)
