So who's got a DS (or an emulator) and would like to play some multiplayer games?

What kind of games are you still playing or used to love to play on your Nintendo DS?

Edit: Despite WFC being taken offline in 2014 (most probably due to Gamespy being killed, as many game relied on their servers), you can still use the WiFi capabilities of DS games by using the alternate wifi server, called altwfc.

https://github.com/polaris-/dwc_network_server_emulator/wiki

However in order to do this you either need to use action replay to modify your game or patch your game directly. Also check out the compatability list on the website to see which games are officially supported and tested (but more will probably work even if they're not on this list).

"Please note that any game that require additional game-specific servers will not work or will have missing/limited functionality including but not limited to things such as leaderboards or user-created content. Those are outside of the scope of this server but contributions to include support for those games are more than welcome. Such games will have a note down below."

As in the previous DS generation? Not the current 3DS?

And aside from Advanced Wars I really can't think of any Multiplayer game for the DS.

And Pokemon is basically rock, paper, sicsors.
I skipped the DS generation and went from my SP to an 3ds. And what multiplayer games would there be for the ds? I'd think mario kart, but wouldn't know about much more.
Though I did emulate a few ds games and played on a friends for a while.

Yep! I don't have a 3DS.

You have plenty of good multiplayer games for the DS, here's a very comprehensive (but probably not complete) list. http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/NDS_Multiplayer_Games

Games of note:

Mario Kart for racing
Soma Bringer for Diablo/Torchlight RPG coop, however it's only local multiplayer (maybe emulators can connect online locally?)
Club House Games for various tabletop and card games
Metroid Prime Hunters for FPS action (also Call of Duty)
Phantasy Star Zero and Gauntlet for more hack n slash
Starfox Command for scifi flying sims

Party and sports games like Mario Party, Bomberman, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games...
Card/collectible games like Yugioh, Beyblade, Pokemon, Digimon...
Fighting games like Bleach, Jump Ultimate Stars, Dragonball, Mortal Kombat....

Green_Hilltop: Gauntlet for more hack n slash
Gauntlet DS was never released.

Green_Hilltop: Soma Bringer
Jump Ultimate Stars
Those two were never translated.

But they have unofficial translation patches, both were translated.

Also huh, I never knew Gauntlet never was officially released, I saw the list and thought it was (I remember reading reviews for it). Looks like only the ROM got released after they decided not to publish it in the end.

Do you actually play any DS games though?

My mistake. I meant to say "they were never released outside Japan". As for the unofficial translation patches, sure, it could work, but then you'd either have to resort to an emulator or a flash card, with the latter becoming pretty difficult after amazon and ebay stopped stocking them up.

A lot. :)

Why would I want to play an emulated version of a DS Call of Duty multiplayer game, when I can just as easily play say Call of Duty 4 and have a much better experiance?

Oh and Metroid Prime Hunters? Trace on that small map is OP.
Didn't Nintendo shut down the servers for all DS games?

SirPrimalform: Didn't Nintendo shut down the servers for all DS games?
Yep, it did, but one programmer managed to get the server data before the shutdown and opened up his own servers! :)

It's called alt wfc.

Elmofongo:
I have a real DS, so I don't need to emulate stuff.

And why not? It's fun and it's portable, perfect when you're out there travelling light. Not to mention the galore of other games!

The official Nintendo servers are down, but I know for at least the Wii all Activision games still have their servers online.

Grargar:
Awesome, which games do you play? :) Wanna go for multiplayer?

Also flashcarts were never primarily sold on Amazon or Ebay, even years ago Ebay tried to stop their sale there if I remember well. So you had to go and still can go to other websites that specialize in selling flashcarts. :)

Well, if the list you posted above is correct, then the games that I have that support online multiplayer are:

Bleach: Dark Souls
Custom Robo Arena
Both Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
Jump Ultimate Stars
Mario Kart DS
Metroid Prime Hunters
Nanostray 2
New Super Mario Bros
Tetris DS

This being a busy period for me, I think I'll have some spare time available on Sunday.

Grargar:
I edited and posted the link to the alternate servers in my first post.

Same here, I haven't tried to set up it yet but people say it's easy and works very well.

I'm not much into Nanostray or Tetris, but I'm all up for the other games!

I'm also interested in trying out the Club House Games eventually, and perhaps eventually some strategy or scifi games.

Elmofongo: And Pokemon is basically rock, paper, sicsors.
That's about the same as saying "Hearthstone is basically go fish". Both are card games, sure, but that's where the similarities end. All you're really doing with a statement like that is demonstrating that your knowledge of the game is superficial at best.

With that said, I much prefer playing the game on an online simulator than on cartridge. It takes hours to breed and train the pokemon you want for your team (even with the generous changes in the 3DS games that streamline the process), and it's much easier to just pick what you want in the simulator team-builder and start playing.
