Kristian: Should GOG provide a refund to people over the developer misspelling their studio name in the game's opening cinematic? After all that would be an immersion breaker for some people and hence they may consider it a game breaking bug.

That was indeed my intention.

Awww I see what you did there, or at least tried to do. It would have been funny and clever if you knew how to compare apples to apples.

GOG needs to take lessons from Amazon, and now Steam.

Pheace: While I get the points made above, you do realize that with the definition above, your character could look like a square error block the entire game but since you can still finish it, no refund.

I certainly hope the spirit of the refund is in part that bugs that break your enjoyment are seriously considered, not tossed aside because they don't fit the definition perfectly.
Exactly~!

It is amazing how many people here defend the company at all costs even against their own interests.

Laugh it up. Steam's new refund policy is no joke. Just ask Rocksteady.

moonshineshadow: I don't think stopped music is preventing you from finishing the game, so they would not consider it game-breaking.

Leroux: This proves that GOG's return policy is not "false" or dishonest, as the OP claims. It also proves that it is kind of useless. You can finish a game (eventually) even if it has terribly low framerates on your system, if the colors are wrong, if it's not playing the intro cutscenes right etc. "Technical problems or game-breaking bugs that prevent you from finishing the your game" can mean anything or nothing at all, whatever the support thinks it should mean. It's nice to be able to "finish" a game, but as a customer I'd also like to be able to enjoy it, at least performance-wise.
Yep. With this vague wording it really is useless and you have to rely on the goodwill of the support.

How in the world did I not see your post sooner? This is exactly my point.

Conflicting ideas there. If the graphics are glitched beyond recognition, you could not complete the game*. Sorry, OP, you're just going to have to live with this one. Some games have unfixable bugs, but I'd certainly not call "music pauses for a long time when you go to the menus" a game-breaking bug; you still get to play and enjoy the game. They even, you said, gave you a partial credit for the tiny defect. I would say you're going too far on your refund request here.

*For most games.

Have a look at what I quoted. I'm talking about knowingly selling games with a shitload of bugs, not caring to find a solution. They sold X Rebirth, Gothic 3, GTA IV and worse shit. It's Steam who mastered the way of "We're just a store and not the devs QA team". Do they give refunds? Yes, since a couple of weeks. But it was Steam who said "Fuck you, no refund, no matter how unplayable the game is! But of course we'll keep on selling it!" for 10 years.

I'm not saying that GOG is awesome and can't improve anymore. Their Galaxy-Client is useless (what does it do that I can't do myself?), the site is broken beyond repair, support is swamped, communication with the users stopped... No, GOG changed a lot. But taking lessons from Steam when it comes to customer support and quality control? Definitely not!

Well, this being a DRM Free store I could make 20 accounts, purchase 2 games with every account and then complain about no game-breaking feature. "This 24298420497 years old game has a minor and easily overcame bug, but I want my money back" Yet you can still keep the installer. Bad business for GOG. So yes, I see your point, but GOG's one makes more sense. And I am not as "in love" with GOG as I used to be so don't think this defence is a case of "I suck GOG's balls because they are never wrong".
But they say that they will refund the game only if you can't play it. And we told you: If you reload the game, the music returns. So everytime you pause, save and reload. Inconvenient? Yes. Can you fix it? Yes. Therefore, you don't apply for a refund. Read the terms better next time. If you find outrageous that a DRM-Free store doesn't refund money for pointless reasons, go to Steam. Sure they treat you better there ;)

I'll just say that I bought commandos on Steam. The only way to make them work. was to use a fan-made patch which included some of the fixes provided with GOG's build. And let's not talk fallout before it was pulled from here and Bethesda invested in applying some mods by default.

So yes, Steam's approach is way better.

You're thinking about this the wrong way. Forget what you think should have been done about my problem. Imagine you get a game that has glitchy graphics, terrible frame rate, no sound, but technically you could still finish the game. GOG doesn't think you should get a refund because you can't finish the game due to significant glitches that rob you of the enjoyment of your purchase because it doesn't work like it's supposed to. Your game boots up, and it doesn't crash, so you don't get a refund. Is that fair to you? This is not about my particular issue with this game because I've found a workaround. However my experience with this game showed me how incredibly anti-consumer GOG really is and made me rethink ever purchasing from their site ever again. You may have a problem that falls in this massive gray area that GOG has created, or you may not. It only takes once to find out. GOG has great product for the most part and I've bought many games from them. However as soon as you have a problem like mine, they are your enemy.
