I had this game installed for awhile but for some reason all of a sudden my Avira virus scanner detected and quarentine an infected data, Right now I forgot the name of it and I still don't know the nature of it other than the Avira scanner mentions its a Cloud based data?

If anyone received the samething from GOG's Crysis 1 and got this "Virus"

Is it a concern or is my Avira Virus Scanner crying wolf?

Elmofongo:
It's false positive.

Either live with it or reinstall, note the name of fle, deactivate Avira, reinstall and upload it to virustotal.
See the list and regret that I told you so.

Yep. I had that warning too. I hope it really is false.
Do we have a small Crisis/Crysis on our hands?

i guess you use a free AV , right ?

some free AV are prone to trigger more false positive , even some paid AV; if you set up them incorrectly. (ie ; some tools could be considered as malware and they are not ...)

it's good idea to upload the file which is the culprit on VirusTotal ^_^

At worse , send a ticket to the support, they probably look into this ...and / or reassure you.

Avira I found tends to go nuts at any file that has had ANY changes to it, at one point it was triggering at changes I would make to my resume, which then would crash open office, so I stopped using it, so I would likely state that this is a false positive, but Upload it to virustotal (which isnt alway right by itself as it can fall victim to the same thing) and just gently nudge support over it, but I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Fairfox: Like Steamie 'n' any other service, GOGie would be finished if teh gamie act. had a virus.

So thar's your answer.
you are born in kosmak - i still remember when a patch for conquer online came with a nice cute trojan. i just uninstalled that game yesterday after i saw the update about invincible warrior. conquer was good game until 2007 but now it's totally ruined in all possible ways

Valid argument in a sense, but Steam and GOG are not run by idiots, Conquer online is, so its unfair to attack fairfox for stating that.

Anti virus use heuristics (basically predictive modelling) to try and detect new viruses based on behaviour and code snippets. If they get their parameters slightly wrong it can and often does flag code that is completely benign as being malicious. By its nature heuristics is rather fuzzy since it's trying to predict stuff so it's a balance between the annoyance of having false positives and the safety of having some protection against unknown viruses and new variants of existing ones. The wider the parameters the more likely new viruses are to be caught, but also the more false positives there will be.

Elmofongo: my Avira virus scanner
There's your problem right there. I hope you don't trust it on everything it detects since most of them are probably safe files. :P

Most likely false positive. Unless gog has been compromised I highly doubt that the any of the games here are actually infected with something. If you think the game has malicious code in it then I recommend contacting support.

Send the false positive to slap the company who flagged it, and then consider switching to a less stupid AV.
