firstpastthepost: I was disappointed to see that they weren't adjusting the bundles for games owned, but that was forgivable. Having the "bonus" code expire is not. It's not a bonus, it is a good I purchased. This is just terrible business practice, and goes against the only reason I purchase games from this company. I purchase things here to own them, not to rent them. The stance on these "bonus" codes, plus the change from labelling owned games as "owned" to "in library" concerns me.
Indeed.

"GOG.com is a digital distribution platform with a curated selection of games, a "you buy it, you own it" philosophy, and utmost care about customers."

Kinda spits in the face of this supposed philosophy doesn't it?
I managed to buy 0 games in what should have been something of the most glorious sale in the last 10 years :D

Haha this is so true it gave me a good laugh :D I do not intend to whine, really, I just thought that there would be a huge sale with huge discounts on mostly classic games (since I suppose that was the initial concept of GOG - revitalizing the classics)
I mean no biggie but why exactly is there not a huge sale going on? I expected a lot more to be going on was going to buy a game or two even.

Yeah, it's a bit of a letdown. At the start it said, 'the 10th anniversary begins now.' And now it says 'the anniversary sale IS HERE.' Since we haven't had any new sales or bundles since Monday, I'm assuming that's it for the week.

Stellaris was a great addition, but I get the feeling that we were all expecting/hoping for another big week-long sale, and instead we got Stellaris, a bungled site redesign and a couple of sale bundles.

Linko90: The codes have been switched from two weeks to two months.
This is terrible and I have further questions:

1. Will this be the case for all new gift codes?

2. Will this format of not crediting owned games persist in all other regular sales?

3. Why do I now see "in library" and not "owned" on game pages of games I bought before?

1. No

2. No

Linko90: 3. We changed the wording
This is becoming hilarious.
Obviously the wording has changed.
But why? Steam mirroring?

To elaborate on the above comment, otherwise I make these dry one liner, often not understood.

Owned is more in line with GOG DRM free ideals. You buy, you own.

In Library is mirroring Steam, where you don t own the item.

Can someone from Product Maeketing come and clarify choices behind these changes?
I really struggle.

One thing is aspiring to reach competitor success.
One thing is copy wrong behaviour.

Thanks for answering. I indeed hope it's just a change of wording and nothing else. :)

Update on the codes:

As mentioned in a previous post, the 2-month expiry date is not a permanent move. This is just a mechanic for the bundle sales for the 10 Years of GOG event. We've heard the frustrations and concerns and we've taken them all into account. We'll be looking to post some further updates later down the lines. But in summary -

The expiry dates on these bundles are not the new norm, it's purely for this event only given the price/games on offer.

Same here. Huge disappointment for me. Back to School (previous) Sale was also worst i've seen since i'm on GOG, first sale that i didn't buy anything and now Anniversary Sale which should be something big, 0 games bought.

Makes you wonder what the heck their marketing team or whoever is responsible for sales are really doing...

Alansa: Rather strange that Mafia is going for more than Mafia 2 deluxe edition.
It may be because Mafia 2 was never removed from distribution thus had more time for prices to move downward as time went on. Mafia 1 had a multi-year gap (i'm not exactly sure how long) being off digital distribution and its comeback pushed it to selling at full price again for a while.
In one word, underwhelming. I thought this would be lil bit better. There won't be another ten years anniversary. I bought two bundles, but I wanted two games from them. Got two other games (probably I wouldn't buy them, so I treat it as a gift), two codes, made two exchanges (at least I got something from my wishlist, but why you force me to do it? with time limit?). Still I will get something, I'm not interested that much. Number two repeats often, so note for this sale? Pała. If you are from Poland, you'll understand ;) More seriously, you can do better dear GOG.

Blitz82: ... There won't be another ten years anniversary...
At this point, you should be happy :)

With SW2 winner as give away, this sale is really all about new ugly UI.

Yeah this wording doesn't sit well with me at all. 'Owned' sounded like 'it's yours', 'In Library' sounds like something that could be followed with 'for now'.

The wording change is asinine, and I'd really like an actual reason why something that didn't need to be changed, was.
