GOG does not deserve its name.
Good old games?
You mean good old games that dont work on newer systems and nothing is done to correct the reported issues?
Whats the point?
Gothic 1 and 2 dont work, the few stupidiotic solutions presented in the sh*tty support dont work.
Forum requests for help are ignored.
In the meantime, there are patches for the Steam versions that work.

So here is an example of good old games that work on Steam but not on GOG.

Would expect a store that calls itself Good Old Games, to take some extra steps to make sure these good old games work and keep working on newer systems, but nope, thats definitely not the case, and given the much larger popularity of Steam, you are much more likely to get these games going on Steam than on GoG.

A lot of the games you see that don't work is mainly the devs that did not patch them to work with recent Windows updates. GOG has nothing to do with this unfortunately, but most of the time a lot of them get fixed and there are work around to get them going again. I have a lot of 20 or 30 games out of my collection that don't work anymore but I know over time with newer windows updates they fix themselves somehow.

Give it time and try to contact the actual dev and studio to get some support or hit GoG support up to get a refund if the game don't work if it was recent.

Here is one example, I purchased this long ago when windows 8 was a thing and it did not work then at all...
now it somewhat works with windows 10 but has some graphical glitches, almost working though!

I did not complain but wished that the studio can get a little patch out to fix it. GOG still sells it even though most people are on newer platforms and won't work with them.

Thank you, I dont like UMP45 too much myself, shes a good TDoll but not her personality, my avatar is of a pre-eyepatch M16A1 who is one of my favorites, the other favs being AK-12, Sopmod II and M4A1 and Negev and finally AN-94

This response doesnt make much sense to me.
When it comes to old games, some of the developers dont exist anymore, or they dont even own the rights to the franchise anymore, or they simply dont have the time, resources and desire to work on their older releases.
The store that prides itself with selling these old games to keep them alive, should put some effort into making them work on newer systems....least that was my expectation, obviously a wrong expectation as i understand now, but an expectation that makes sense nevertheless.

There are a lot of these old games that do get fixed from the new companies that took over the IP, a lot of them do get fixed, I'm sorry you had a shit experience but hey nothing in life is ever perfect, I learned that from experiences and just move on knowing hey, there is always something else to fill that spot.

Talk to GOG customer service, I had nothing but solid A+++ conversations with the guys over there. I'm sure if you talk to them and tell them what's up you might get lucky and get some type of refund for the games into store credit to put towards something else. they helped me out a few times when I was in your position. Love them for the help <3

What system? For Gothic 1 on Win 7 x64 I had to add it to the DEP (data execution prevention) exception list. Might be the same with Gothic 2.
