kaboro: The store that prides itself with selling these old games to keep them alive, should put some effort into making them work on newer systems....least that was my expectation, obviously a wrong expectation as i understand now, but an expectation that makes sense nevertheless.
They do though. Most games here will work under Windows 7 or 8/8.1. And true that Windows 7 might not be new anymore, but compared to the operating system and requirements that alot of these games are designed for it is new. And most of the games here will run fine under 10, GOG just don't solely cater to Windows 10 users. Out of the 561 games I own for example I think 3 have issues under 10 (one of them was pretty annoying to get running even back in the day.)
A few games will need third party patches, which GOG don't include due to obvious reasons, but they are not tough to find online.
And you mentioned Gothic 1 & 2 in your post specifically. They do run under Windows 10, the videos just have issues. There is a third party patch to fix that but i'll need to look for it and get back to you.
