actually that's the only fault and a downgrade to firefox 44 would fix it. drivers are too problematic and i only upgrade when i need to. to be fair, firefox has a lot of faults when on the "always stay up to date" plan. i don't see the point of it. my systems haven't been infected for atleast 7 years straight. :-)

rz4: So I got this problem first when I bought Riddick some time ago. My internet connection was pretty sh*tty back that time so it took hours to download the damn game. And it wouldn't download correctly... it didn't matter if I was using GoG downloader or I tried through the browser it always ended in a failure. So I tried again and again and for the 6-7th time it finally downloaded without any error or missing file.
Now I have a much better internet connection so I thought there wouldn't be any problem when I purchased SWAT 3 but I was wrong once again. I can't download it though the browser because it always ends in an error display saying I run too many things at once (which I don't) and the downloader just stops merely second before it would finish downloading the game and it stays that way no matter what I do.
So I search around in the support section and what do I find again and again? Use galaxy. That's the solution. Use the 100% optional client because without it you won't be able to access the game you just purchased. Well no GoG, I won't use your client because I don't want to. I don't care if it's the most awesome thing ever created I won't install another client, I'm sick of them.
In the end I just torrented the thing under 2 min. then deleted the torrent client. I was done in about 10 minutes. No hassle, no extra crap to run in the backround. And don't even start about how torrent is stealing 'cause I bought the game, I just couldn't access it and that is a pretty big problem if you ask me.

Please GoG continue to support your downloader. I like this site, I like that you sell games without DRM but if I have to get the game I purchase here illegally just to play it...I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
This sounds like a problem I have a lot with the downloader. Be sure to set the concurrent downloads to 1. (it's a setting somewhere in there -- it may have a different name. I think it defaults to 4 or 6 or something.)

I use FDM for downloading gog games, works very good with Firefox.

hedwards: That's why I wind up using downloaders. There's no particular reason why they couldn't use Bittorrent, Jigdo or something similar. Bittorrent itself allows you to just download the bits that have been downloaded incorrectly, you don't have to have it connecting clients together.

Niggles: End up like Humble or groupee torrents where there is 1 seed (and get the invetible people complain about speeds when there are like 5 seeds and a few hundred leechers) or even worse dead.
Compared with what we have, that would be a significant improvement. As it is if those multigig downloads get corrupted, you have to redownload the whole file if you were stuck using your browser.

I used to use that during the period where there was no downloader, but I can't say that it works well. It works OK for smaller downloads and the downloads usually time out before you get to resume. At least for the ones large enough that they need more than the browser.

I've used that as my main downloader for years, with both IE and Chrome - and it has worked great (for me, at least).

No problems at all with large downloads, in my experience; or pausing/resuming (assuming the far end also supports that functionality).

Admittedly I don't use it much anymore (I don't seem to download much these days besides GOG games, via the GOG Downloader), so I still use v3.0.871, from 2009! But it still works fine (software, unlike milk, doesn't spoil); so I can't say if they've "bloated it up" over the intervening years - but that old version does the job for me..

- no user accounts
- allows unauthorized users to drink it
- the "cups" protocol is not forced at all which allows users direct access to the milk without rerouting it to a "cup" process (this is colloquially known as the "drinking milk directly from the bottle" exploit. It's a serious issue that has been ignored by the devs for a long time!)

Milk: it's insecure as hell!

True... I stopped using the torrent option to get my Humble Bundle Android installers because there would be so few seeds that they would come very slowly. Downloading them using the direct http downloads was much faster.

The situation might be better with their Windows installers though, I guess, but I haven't re-downloaded them from HB for a long time.

Also, be sure to always keep up-to-date with the latest version of milk, as using a too old version can lead to serious malfunctioning of the system. Not to mention that milk is completely incompatible with some systems and always causes malfunctions regardless of how up-to-date milk is - this can in some cases be alleviated by using a fork called lactosefree, and in other cases a similar application like soymilk or oatmealdrink (both of which which are completely separate projects and share no source whatsoever with milk or each other).

I think you don't understand. You can get a torrent file, but you have an option to give that file to someone who didn't paid for it and be able to download it afaik.

I have a question, Why are the download times on the Galaxy client a lot slower than the GOG site? I can get up to 17mb a sec on site as with the client I am floating around 1 to 2 to 3 randomly?

Can the client be modified to download at higher rates?

Try modifying the concurrent connections setting, either increasing it or decreasing it.

It is possible to limit downloads to only authorized people even when using torrents. You can get the .torrent, but without proper authorization you will not connect to the swarm, thus be unable to download. A combination of passkey and/or IP checks most likely is needed, and that would also mean that any .torrent files found in the wild can be traced back to their downloader.

That's what i've meant.
Obviously you do not understand how BitTorrent works. GOG could easily run its own secure torrent tracker that restricts access to valid, licensed GOG users only. Even if one of those users were to give the .torrent to someone else, that person would never be able to connect and download anything.
