Breja: I greatly dislike long dialogues with dead silence in games.
I don't have a problem with that. After all, novels also manage to tell great story without voice acting. I don't have a problem with the talkie version being there, but I find excluding the original EGA version or even the FM Towns one to be pretty stupid.
They did manage to include two different versions of Zak McKracken (FM Towns and EGA), if I remember correctly.

To explain how much worse the dialogue in the CD release is, take a look at this scene between Rusty and Bobbin in the EGA original, and then in the VGA talkie version. In the latter, they simply rush through the main points of what the characters said in the former, losing nearly all of the character in the process.

True. I can't argue the point as anything rational, it's just an idiosyncracy of mine- I can't stand audio books, but in games I prefer dialogue voiced. For some reason I don't "hear" the silence when reading a book, but in a game the dead silence is just killing me. Of course it would be best to have full dialogue and the voices, but as is I'm glad I got to play the "talkie" one.

ReaverT: Good point, and yes, forgot about Secret Weapons of Luftwaffe
It's the game from my childhood I really miss. Just giving you a hard time. :)

IronArcturus: Yeah, I was hoping Episode I Racer was going to make it to GOG, but now I wonder if we'll ever see it...
That game is a hopeless mess on anything built less than ten years ago.

I think Brian Moriarty has also said that he considers the EGA version of Loom to be the definitive version. So yeah, it would be nice to get that here.

ReaverT: After all, your site stands for Good Old Games right?
False, it did stand for Good Old Games, now it's just GOG.
avatar
ReaverT: Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle or Maniac Manssion (remake at the works by Double Fine),
I really would much prefer to have the originals than a remake/remaster.
episode 1 was my favorite of the prequels but I could not stand the kid that played annakin. his haircut made him look like a penis

Everything looks like a penis to you.

Classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Ninja'd

Not anymore, it's just GOG now.

There could be some apathy from Disney now that The Force Awakens has been released. It would certainly be nice to have alternative versions and missing important bonus content for games already here, as well as that missing Monkey Island game with over 20,000 votes (not sure what the hold-up there is unless Double Fine really wants to re-animate it all and re-release).

ReaverT: snip
You could at least get the title right, it should read...

Where the hell are the rest of the Lucasarts games?!?!?!?

ReaverT: It's been quite a while since we last heard from these games. The last adittions were mainly action and graphical adventures,

A reply would be appreciated.
Unfortunately, I doubt there is anyone from Disney following the GOG general forum too closely so you're unlikely to get any kind of official responses. If Disney doesn't have anything on the table to give to GOG, GOG isn't going to have much to say, and even if there are things in the works, GOG may be contractually bound to not mention anything publicly as is often the case with NDAs in business deals.

In response to "After all, your site stands for Good Old Games right?", actually no GOG.com does not stand for "Good Old Games". The site originally was an acronym for that, however when they redesigned the website and made changes to the business model many years ago they stopped associating the term "Good Old Games" with the company name, and since that time GOG.com officially stands for "GOG.com" and not "Good Old Games". Nonetheless, GOG continues to add old games to the catalogue as regularly as ever, and if one actually looks at the original release dates of every one of the games added to the store and does the math, they can see that GOG does indeed add just as many old games to the store now as they ever have in the past. JMich and others keep track of the statistics on this I believe in another thread and kindly "correct" people when they are mistaken about it. I don't have the link handy so I'll leave that up to JMich or someone else to respond, or as an exercise to the concerned gamer to hunt it down themselves. Suffice it to say, anyone who thinks GOG does not still provide a steady stream of "old" games is not paying attention to the release dates of the games added, or perhaps they have a different definition of what "old" means.

As for the various LucasArts games you've mentioned by name, GOG doesn't need to respond because we already know the high level reason why. The high level reason why is because Disney has not made such games available to GOG and we don't even know if they are even working on them or not unless Disney has publicly stated something about doing so. The lower level reasons that might deal with legal issues, engineering, re-engineering, porting, etc. are not really the types of things that companies generally talk about publicly as a rule. There are exceptions sometimes if a company is comfortable to talk about it, but in that case it would be Disney that interested parties should be contacting because they own the games.

One thing is certain though, ranting about it on the forums isn't going to make anything magically change to one's liking. There's always Steam around the corner for the disenfranchised, or other awesome DRM-free storefronts like ShinyLoot and Desura to compete with GOG to do better for DRM-free gaming. Oops, maybe not. :)

ReaverT: Regarding your first point... It was Disney the one who aproached GOG in the first place to release all these tittles for the first time through Digital Distribution
<snip>
Well it sure does sound like you're pretty upset about this. I have an idea, why not yell at the entire community of other gamers that aren't responsible for the problem and don't really have any way to make games magically appear here either. Better yet, yell and scream and start a public flame war over it with people that do not work at Disney or GOG and have no say in the matter, many whom would actually like to see those same games here too. Yelling and screaming in GOG forums and starting arguments with random strangers is the best possible way to get Disney to get people working on making these games available to GOG and ready for GOG to start selling ASAP. The more people you yell at, the sooner you'll be able to buy the games here because that is the process that has to happen for each game that GOG adds to the catalogue. Even if GOG has the game sitting right there ready to ship, they purposefully sit it on a shelf if they look in the forums and don't see any hostile pointless flamewars created by people throwing tantrums. They figure if a game can't generate at least one tantrum then it probably wont sell very well.

So, you've completed the first step now! In fact, if you're quick and you really pour the fire on you might accelerate the release of some of these games as early as tomorrow's Thursday release! Hey, that'd be pretty awesome. How about you maybe insult me for my response, maybe tell me how stupid I am or something I dunno. Be sure to USE LOTS OF CAPITAL LETTERS TO INDICATE SHOUTING. That is important otherwise people wont know how you really feel, and it really does need to have that extra edge to offset it from other messages and show them you really really mean it. Whatever you do though, don't say anything polite or act friendly. Not to other forum members and especially not to GOG or Disney or else they'll think you're just a lightweight and not a serious true dedicated gamer. Whatever you do, don't vote for any of the games you want on the wishlist and don't add any of them to the wishlist if they're not already there. If you do add one though, make absolutely sure to swear and use all capital letters so you get noticed.

Even though none of us will know either way, throw a cup at your monitor when replying. While we might not see it, it will feel good and it will send a sort of emotional energy into your writing that will enhance it to really give it that extra "punch" that can't harm anything and can only help to get the games you want showing up on GOG.com sooner.

One more tip: Be sure to reply to every single person who has replied to you in this post and be as rude and obnoxious as possible to everyone. Disagree with everyone in your responses in every possible way and try to really put some emotion into it. Anger is a good one, but it has to be more than that. Try adding some arrogance and self-entitlement liberally as often as possible, as all of these things can only end up helping your cause ultimately. Bonus points also for swearing in multiple languages at someone in the same sentence because this shows multi-lingual diversity which only increases the chances of Disney adding multi-lingual support to the games!

I just know your followup posts are going to be fantastic and do a lot for increasing the number of DRM-free games here, and I'm willing to bet that people are making phone calls right now as we speak, calling managers at Disney and waking them up out of bed with their jobs now on the line if they don't put a fire under their asses to get those games here on the double ASAP.

The silly thing is, we've all been doing this the wrong way all along by being polite, adding games to the wishlist, politely communicating with GOG and game developers and publishers etc. and where has that gotten us? Pffft, Teen Agent and Lure of the Temptress! Then you come along and show us all up with how it's REALLY done with such impressive and uncompromising display of such Oscar winning professional dramatic flair! It really makes the rest of us look pathetic in comparison. But maybe it's not too late for us if we follow in your lead. Perhaps we could join in unison and scream at people together? Maybe there are power in numbers! There's only one thing though and I have to be honest about it. I'm open to the idea of yelling and screaming at people I don't know, and even at least trying to develop an immense sense of self-entitlement at not only GOG and Disney and the entire GOG customer base in the forums, maybe even cursing at people and being arrogant and belligerent if it might get us more games... but... (there's always a "but" right...) there's a limit to how much I'm willing to commit so I wont punch my monitor. Hey, that might be a lightweight move on my part and I can admit that, but this thing cost $1100 and while I'm all for the cause and whatnot, I do have my limits of commitment. Maybe I can yell at JudasIscariot in followup messages to make up for that though, just so I don't seem like too much of a thumb sucker.

Anyhow, thanks for bringing us this whole new refreshing approach on how to go about getting GOG to add the games we want to the catalogue since the way we've all been doing it for years just hasn't worked well enough. I mean why isn't NOLF and NOLF2 here? Legal rights issues? PFFFT!! Who cares about the law! That's just a lame excuse! They have no way around it this time. If we all follow in your lead, not only will we have all the Star Wars games that are missing brought here but there will be so many of them coming so fast that GOG will have to turn the homepage into a clone of the famous Star Wars prologue scroller, complete with John Williams conducting a live symphony orchestra playing the soundtrack from the films from the top of Marcin Iwinski's desk live streamed on twitch.tv!

Thanks, I can't wait!
