A few days ago, AMD sneaked something into their installer for their gfx drivers & there was a major shit storm on Reddit, Twitter, AMD forums & all over.

The thing that AMD sneaked on was..... An icon that was a paid link for Quake Champions.
Just an icon, no program, no spyware or anything.
AMD immediately saw that it was hated & removed it within hours.
This didn't even encroach on anything AMD had said of their business plans over the years.

Whilst I doubt gog will do the right thing, one can but hope that they will for those that are still customers here. Especially as this is something a hell of a lot larger than an icon. Having copies of galaxy in every installer is beyond ridiculous!

As others have stated & the list of games blighted that I posted on the other thread, loads don't even have multiplayer, so this is just a dumb move.

tremere110: I think you wanted to say downloading Galaxy is not optional anymore.

Klumpen0815: Yes, fixed.
Unfortunately now you seem to have cloned the mistake where I can't fix it.
Fixed it. I would've sent a chat message but chat has issues on mobile devices.

Someone did just send me a PM on another board to notify me about a chat message he sent me here two weeks ago and I didn't notice since notifications are Galaxy exclusive already.

How fitting...

fishbaits: Okay, they're really taking the piss now...

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/offline_installers_with_an_option_to_install_gog_galaxy

"...Don’t fret, nothing’s changed with our approach to GOG Galaxy being optional, which is why you can easily uncheck the GOG Galaxy installation within the game installer settings."
If you're smart enough to first choose the custom installation option, is what I'm thinking.

Fuck 'em.

Damn it, NO!

Well, I think we'll need a new old school shop for old games, real Good Old Games, not this shit GOG is turning into.

fishbaits: Okay, they're really taking the piss now...

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/offline_installers_with_an_option_to_install_gog_galaxy

"Hey everyone!

Starting on Friday, we’re going to include the option to install the GOG Galaxy client from the offline installers downloaded via GOG.com in over 100 games.

As many new users discover and download games from our website, we don’t want them to end up with installations that don’t auto-update or backup saves to the cloud. In fact, we want to offer everyone the most convenient experience from the get-go.

Don’t fret, nothing’s changed with our approach to GOG Galaxy being optional, which is why you can easily uncheck the GOG Galaxy installation within the game installer settings. "

So we now have to uncheck galaxy install, instead of them not setting it to install on every installer?

Lame excuse because... "As for the option being opted in as default - after careful consideration, we've decided to go with this because we believe that it's easier for an experienced user to uncheck the box than it would be for a new user to figure out how to turn the feature on."

Crock of shit!

So I take it this also means it is also increasing our download sizes too?

buh bye gog.
Well, an OPTIONAL client though. Interesting: Where are the arguments now GOG won't do this? Anyone? :D
Good I have downloaded all installers before this kind of nonsense is integrated now.

The dishonesty is so blatant that it's almost impossible to pretend that the message is unambiguous. lol

Of course. :) But I find it interesting: The people argumenting FOR the client are now silent or perhaps even focussed within the corresponding thread? Don't know for now. But we have done this so far: I'll take the last steps now, look up what's coming, get a big laugh and smile and then? Closing account. Leaving this place! It's the only option from my point of view for now when talking about the harsh line.
GOG what evil spirit is leading you. You took some wrong turns here.

Are they blind?

Well you would have point if it wasn't still OPTIONAL but seeing how it is... you point is what exactly? What is there to argue over? Annoying... sure... bad choice... sure... less OPTIONAL, not really.

Call me when you can't disable it and/or play without it...

Oh yes, taking more bloatware (round about 150 MB) within the download is okay. Yes, of course ... and that's the point I sent Firefox back to the trash even under Linux and used derivates. But piece by piece again: It's "optional". And you say that even when Galaxy is silent installed? Yes you don't have to use it. Bad jokes here. :D

I don't think we know whether or not the client itself will be bundled with the "offline" installers, but the rationale for making them opt-out definitely belongs in encyclopedia dramatica.

Therefore I'm waiting for friday to have a look on this. For now I think it'll be the same as PDF-viewer or something else. The option to have different versions of the installers is also possible, but everything on this great idea is ... far away from reasonable?

throgh: Well? And that's a reason for what? Spare out criticism? Yes, customer demand some things ... but when one thing is clear enough throughout this discussion: Some users are just willing or lazy enough to accept everything and they just don't care about possible implications.
No it's just that some users knows that asking developers to remove DRM and release their game DRM-free is one thing, but asking the same developer to build from scratch some multiplayer feature that didn't exist before is incredibly silly, especially to release a game on a service that only had a fraction of Steam market.
