chrcoluk: Well thats sony been idiots for not having a better deal for consumers.

Steam recently told everyone that once someone pays for a game, even if the publisher pulls it from the store, it will always be available to download, this was evidenced by the fact a skyrim modder tried to pull his mod and then got angry when steam refused to stop allowing customers who had paid for it to continue downloading it.

Regardless it is a genuine risk for digital gaming, what will be a telltale sign is what happens to xbox 360 and ps3 digital games in say 10 years time, will they still be downloadable and playable?
Yeah, I know steam have said they would unlock all content if they ever went under but that doesn't account for software with 3rd part drm. Not to mention its a huge trust to have in them. I know its not really worth worrying about for the forseeable future but I back my games and all goodies up into a secondary drive and burn my favourite games to CD which I make my own cover art for. I feel like I get the best of both worlds, digital and physical!

Oh and yeah, P.T was a rare example, most stores will honour redowbloading of purchased software but still, like you said, genuine risk if the consumers rights begin to be ignored.

I always keep hearing people cite that whole "Well Valve/Gabe said that they can unlock Steam games if needed" but I have never once seen actual evidence of this quote or where it came from. It honestly sounds like one of those things that people think they saw or heard but was never actually said. Kinda like how people quote Carl Sagan as saying "Billions and Billion of Stars" which he never once said.

You sir.. Are completely right. Its cropped up so often here since the release of galaxy, as a way to defend valve on the drm argument, I kind of assumed it must have been said recently. Just done an extensive search and cannot find any such source. Even more reason to buy in gog!

yeah I actually been hearing that argument since sometime after HL2 launched so if it was ever said it was way back when Valve was hurting to get people to adopt steam. But until I see a official source I am counting it as a long standing myth.

I do actually remember reading an interview with Gabe saying about the whole unlocking thing. It was a gamespot article around the time Fallout 3 was a big thing.

Would be interested to read if you can find a link, I searched for a while but didn't come up with anything.

Sorry, I have no idea when it was really. All I remember is that it was posted when I was playing Fallout 3 just after launch.

The only time I read Gabe mention the whole "unlock" thing it was in an interview a long time ago, around Half Life 2 release date, at a time where the only games on Steam were the Valve ones; never saw it "officially" mentioned since.
all i read here is bullshit i had to make a accound to just post it steam is and wil always be on top why even making a post like this on gog? steam have alot more sales sales gog cant go keep up with more stuff on gog nah not really its just called diffrent but its the same stuff the game company sells

keep in mind everything thats sold on steam and gog is all stuf from the game companys its up to steam and gog how to make it sound steam is more direct to the point gog is more like wanting to put juices in your mouths and then you buy it and its same as in steam duh

witcher 3 steam gets those 16 dlc's for free to duh.

be honest a post like this on gog ofcourse people act like GOG! post it on a neutral forum it wil be steam all the way everyone uses steam hell steam releases more stuff their own computers their own pc game controllers steam releases their own operating systems even steam for console

as far at looking at prices no diffrences neighter stop spreading lies and face the facts

its ok if you want to use gog or steam or whatever but dont bother others with it both does what its supposed to do steam is here for like 15 years now and it wil always be 15 jears ahead of gog steam is using as social its an easy way to invite people to play with you and it has alot bigger market not only with games also it adds a workshop to put mods on for games

use what you like yourself just stop spreading negativity there is enough negativity arround the world aint there?

Bad english.

But from my meager understanding : Gog can't beat Steam. The Empire will prevail. No point in buying here. neighter. A bit of confusion around steam having a bigger ... market. And be positive !

I don't mean to sound harsh but the whole point of this post doesn't make much sense, and even less considering the whole thread above.

(I may be wrong about the Empire)

What is it that the OP wants?

Low prices then yes steam is the way. Gog cannot compete with steam for that. Pretty much every triple A title ends up being less than $10 on summer sale after 11 months of release.

No DRM, then go for gog. Steam will always be pro drm. You can install witcher on as many pc's as you want. With steam it will be only one pc.

In the case of The Witcher 3, I'm sure at some point the price will definitely fall as low as Steam Sales, since GOG is owned by CDP (or a branch of CDP or at least associated somehow, I don't remember exactly).

That's a lie. You can play 1 game, on up to 4 registered computers with steam, as long as your own account. If the game is in your library on steam, you can play it on multiple. With my account, I can play on both my laptop, and my desktop via the same account.
