Syphon72: Is there any real proof this what GOG doing? Trying to trick us? Because it sounds like a conspiracy.

vv221: Have you been living under a rock since 2014? ;P

Hey, they do not even try to hide it, they are pretty transparent with their will to get all of their customers to use their optional-for-now games client.
It's not proof that GOG is trying to trick us. Pushing the Galaxy is different than trying to trick people. I might have been under a rock since 2014. haha
How do you trick someone anyway if you don't hide it - or in other words - tell him exactly what your plan is? How is that a trick of any kind?

AstralWanderer: One significant downside of Zoom Platform compared to GOG/Steam is the lack of community forums - which removes the possibility of user-to-user support, which can be important when official support doesn't come up to scratch.
Currently the ZP Discord is where the community gathers and offers user to user support.

But yes, forums would be nice, especially as a way to archive info.

Hasn't happened yet, as far as I've seen.

Message boards are mostly useless, anyway.

What does hiding have to do with it? The behavior outlined in vv221's description is clearly, intentionally deceptive, with a clear goal of leading people to Galaxy and away from offline installers. The fact that users don't have to fall for it is irrelevant. The only valid excuse might be ignorance (i.e., it was unintentional), but they have been publicly criticized since they started this practice, so ignorance is not possible.

Needless to say, I consider the lack of a semi-mandatory network-attached client to be a positive. And if you disagree, then, to be fair, you will have to dock gog as well, for not providing its client on all supported platforms.

You are only tricking someone, if he's supposed to fall for it, so it's very much relevant.

You may like Galaxy or not, that's up to you. But nobody is tricking anybody here.

I guess you don't remember the "g suffixed" Bundleware offline installer bait & switch introduced roughly the same time as the website makeover that did its best to hide the non Galaxy download links behind "More -> Classic Installer" download menus after about 2 years of general over-pushing of Galaxy between 2015-2017? It was only a large-scale outcry (that 1700 post thread where the backlash was bad enough that somehow even Blue moderator accounts managed to get "low rated" at the time) that's the only reason Galaxy-less offline installers can still be found on each game card today...

Your ethical standards leave a lot to be desired. Apparently it's only deceptive if it's 100% impossible for people to realize you're deceiving them. Or maybe you think they have to outright lie about it, because truth is never deceptive.

If "supposed to" means "100%" for you, your interpretation skills are just as bad, so let's call it even.

Of course it's trying to trick people. Ever go to a website to download anything? Do you see the large, often green DOWNLOAD NOW advertisements on them? Of course it's intentional. Grocery stores intentionally rearrange their shelves to force customers to stay in the store longer, And gog puts a great big DOWNLOAD NOW button there to get people to click on that instead of just the game files.

If you aren't aware of the often used manipulations of capitalists, then one wonders where you have been, if not under a rock.

heritage, i guess its a vanity thing.

Still I could do other digital services like Uplay/Origin but I lost my accounts there so the games disappeared. I consider Uplay to be the worst, EA App (origin) second, battle.net third. Trying to install and launch each separate launcher is tedious and I like to stick to storefronts where most of the games are DRM free (I should have done steam as a comparison but its so stuck in my head i figured its be second nature.

if you fix postal 3 it wouldn't be postal anymore. I guess they intentionally borked the release so they could get a meme going

It's not tricking people if it's right there still. You people are being paranoid as usual.
