2024 was a milestone for Video Game Preservation.

With a plethora of amazing projects accomplished by us and our outstanding partners, we continue the fight to ensure your gaming legacy is safeguarded and will live forever.

Why? Because video games made us who we are today. They shaped our personal lives and had a lasting impact on the world we live in. Preserving them and their stories is of the utmost importance.

Please enjoy the recap of all the efforts made in 2024, created in collaboration with our partners—and, of course, with your support.

It features presentations by Jason Scott of the Internet Archive, Stop Killing Games, The Strong National Museum of Play, Mike Arkin from Argonaut Games, Nightdive Studios, and more!

ssling: It was never free.
I got The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena for free (instead of 14,09 €) on 2015-11-21.
Because the OP doesn't include the complete news:

Video Title: "Video Game Preservation Recap | 2024"

Closing words:
"Every effort counts, and we know that together, this is just the beginning!
Thank you for being a part of this journey."

Really? What does the receipt says?

Not that I don't believe you, but I don't know how could I missed it, and I can't find any confirmation of such giveaway either.
A lotta people in here are missing that a big part of preservation is restoration. Not just letting things continue decaying in the state they were found.

Soooooo in the interest in authentic restoration, Dosbox Staging when?
For restoration, please bring back both NOLFs (No One Lives Forever)
For remaster - I'd like to Might and Magic series, especially 6-8.
Probably the first step in preserving a game is making sure that the version that you are preserving is the latest most up-to-date one. As this is often not the case (see here: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/games_that_treat_gog_customers_as_second_class_citizens_v2), perhaps it would be wise to invest some resources now to ensure that publishers and developers keep their games up to date on GOG, so that when you come to preserve those games in the future, you will not find yourself preserving a second class game.

Not exactly free:

While you're here, grab a few extra games for free by doing your thing and shopping around. The more you spend, the more you'll get back, so when your total spendings exceed $5, $15, and $30, you'll unlock a new game for FREE. They're pretty good ones too:
--System Shock 2 - free for everyone who spends at least $5.
--The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - free for everyone who spends at least $15.
--Banished - free for everyone who spends at least $30.
