Hi,

Some time ago I posted a question for GOG statistics (see this post) and because the existing user statistics were not satisfying I started to collect the number of games, achievements and played hours of users in this forum. And because somebody else might be interested in this information, I share it here.

There is no guarantee that these lists are correct because I don't have access to internal GOG data. I only used the public available information of a limited number of users.

it is alos not correct as you are only collecting data from the gOg users who use Galaxy. there are several users that are here just beacuse the they can play without the client. it is almost impossible to extrapolate the true numbers, as we do not know the % of users that use Galaxy or not.

well, theres that and zero mention of this being opt-in

Very interesting. Thank you for sharing. I could see GOG having official section dedicated to rankings based on these stats. With an Off switch in the privacy settings.

Curious that someone owns 4166 games but the support site says the store only has 3864 games. I vaguely recall some recent announcement that mentioned more games than that in the store.

As others have said, only half of GOG users are being counted as a lot of people (myself included) have had Galaxy profiles disabled from day one simply because we don't use Galaxy. Plus a lot of users (even Galaxy users) don't use the forums. I've also always found it pointless to collect things like Played Hours or Achievements for old games when even Galaxy users have only had their gameplay time / achievement unlocks counted since Galaxy 1.0 (approx 2015). Eg, I could enable my profile and play 4hrs of Neverwinter Nights then 4hrs of Doom, etc, today and it would show 4hrs each or 8hrs gameplay in total across my entire game collection. In reality, I've racked up hundreds of hours each per game alone going back almost 30 years from owning the disc versions since launch in 1993, many replays + dozens of mods. Still working my way through the 1,100 WADs + half the Neverwinter Vault I have stashed away (and even after completing the lot my GOG profile will still say "0hrs played"...)

Thanks for that. I love statistics and always respect people who are willing to contribute.

no, we do not know if it is half or not. if it was half, it would be easy, just duobble it up. it can be 1/2, or a1/3, or 3/4, or 1/10, we just don't have the information.

Impressive work. :) There is one more GOG employee for your list of Top 10 most owned games - Kiddo.Butai with 3919 as of writing:

It isn't even close to be correct.
Just in this thread roughly 1/3 deactivated their profile. You don't got any data at all from them. Regardless if they use galaxy behind the curtain or not.
And accuracy of the data of the others is still in question, because the data is only tracked when galaxy is active.
The only thing you can see as "true" is the number of games.

I don't know if these users want to be called out openly in the forum either...

Thanks for the lists, I also like statistics. I find them interesting, even if they're incomplete due to the limited public information. Here's another big collector you missed:
https://www.gog.com/u/Antarian

I've always hoped GOG would do a news post similar to the one they did in 2015, when they reach another milestone - but it doesn't look like it'll happen:

To give you an idea of how "accurate" your statistics are:

Look at the user K1ller. His "hours played" amount to 53099.
Now, 53099 hours divided by 24 hours (= a day) are: ~2212.5 days.
2212.5 days divided by 365 days (= a year) are: ~6.06 years.

The user K1ller is a registered GOG user since July 2015.
Add six years to July 2015 and you are in July 2021...that was eight months ago.

Which means, the difference between the time the user is registered here, and the hours he "spent playing" during this time, amounts to eight months.

8 months divided by 6.06 years = 1.32 months/year.
How many days are that?
1.32 months times 30 (= the mathematical month) = 39.6 days/year.
And how many hours are that?
39.6 days times 24 hours (= a day) = 950.4 hours/year.
And that accumulates to how many hours a month?
950.4 hours divided by 12 (= months/year) = 79.2 hours/month.
Ok, one last time: how many hours per day would that be?
79.2 hours divided by 30 (= mathematical days/month) = 2.64 hours/day.

So - that's 2.64 hours on average per day, during the last six years, that the user K1ller did NOT spent with gaming.

Now, how credible would you rate this number?

Good point. Though one must add, that these GOG members do share their stats willingly with (the interested part of) the public.
All AgentAndre did, was to save others the work to click on each of these users' profiles.

Even with regular games it is possible, I think. Consider only all these games removed from the store, demos of limited availability etc. Also some positions of GOG catalogue are actually bundles (as Ultima 1+2+3, some adventure games split into chapters etc.) which are unpacked after purchase and create >1 position in user's library.
Except for having accidentally left the tracking on when I first used Galaxy for multiplayer, there wouldn't be much to see from looking at my profile. That stuff has been turned off for years. When I asked GOG to delete what was there, they refused.

Ice_Mage: Curious that someone owns 4166 games but the support site says the store only has 3864 games.
There are three official numbers available in regard to the amount of games on GOG:

1) the number of games mentioned on the support page: 3864

2) the number of games mentioned on the store's page: 4187

3) the number of games mentioned on the store's page plus DLCs and extras: 6142

I assume, due to GOG's weird habit of counting the same game multiple times, simply because they are available in several editions, the amount presented on the support page is the most accurate one, since the support for any game is independent from "Game X" also being available as part of "Edition Y" and "Edition Z".
You also have to consider how many games they might own that are no longer available.
