So i received an email from gog for a survey because im on of their best customers lol. So a few scary question were there for example
Would you like a subscription on gog?
How important are drm free games to you?
I only made pro consumer answers but how about you?
A subscription in what sense? What would a subscription mean here?
I just completed the survey.

It had questions for what we think we would value in a subscription.

HumbleChoice style curated bundles of games was the top option, and the only one that I think makes any sense.

There was a number of options you could choose from. For example bundles added to your account, free access to a catalogue of games, extra save space, streaming to several devices). Also the option to give your own ideas and thoughts.

I don't like these kind of Gog surveys . The Gog Galaxy client , and the stupid in-game achievements were the results of one of those .

in-game achivments have nothing to do with gOg or galaxy. Galaxy do have acivments, though, but they are game external, not in-game.
The survey was much longer than I thought it would be. If I had known that before hand I probably wouldn't have bothered.

And as usual they ask things in funny ways or don't have an option I wanted, though you did often get the chance to add your own (single) option.

I answered as best and honestly as I could, and asked for a few things near the end. I remain hopeful, but it did feel like a somewhat disguised fishing expedition, with some elements being more important than others no doubt, and some probably not at all but included to seem more balanced etc ... but perhaps that's just the cynic in me.

Overall I guess it is good they reached out to at least some of us regular spenders. I'll take it as a positive sign for now. :)

It was a very lengthy survey, but this is what mattered to me most:
* Loosening of absurd "DRM-free" mentality that has prevented quality games from being released here just because they include Denuvo or whatever.
• More cool extras that you unlock by going online in GOG Galaxy, like the stuff for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 next-gen update.
• Finally being able to compete with Steam by getting bought out by Tencent.
• Deletion of all backup installers to save server space and processing cycles. No more "GOG bears" thank you very much.
• $250 monthly subscription that rewards users with a special 32×32 avatar.

What would truly be absurd, is having DRM single player games at GOG.
Why would anyone want that, when they can just get them at Steam or Epic or many other places.
The whole point of GOG and why it came into existence in the first place, is DRM-Free.
GOG can never compete with Steam or others on the DRM front.
There is no DRM niche GOG can slip into with AAA games.
I wonder if I won't get it because I didn't have "Releases and Announcements" email option checked.

What is annoying on gog?
- No workshop
- No central announcement system for new game updates/patches
- The forum software is older than Adam & Eve

What is missing on gog?
- Workshop (this is absolutely mandatory if you want to attract more customers to the store)
- Announcement system for new game patches (it gets annoying to search for updates manually once you have more than like 100 games; you really should thank gogdb.org, w/o this page it would be already a big chaos)

Would you like a subscription on gog?
- No, totally superfluous

Have you subscribed to any subscription plan on other platforms?
- No

What do you think about in-game content & microtransactions?
- Not interested

Do you use Galaxy?
- I don't care about it

surfer1260: - Workshop (this is absolutely mandatory if you want to attract more customers to the store)
It's 100% guaranteed that if GOG tried to introduce "GOG Workshop" they'll gate it behind Galaxy. Personally I think locking mods to 3rd party stores that played zero part in creating them has always been completely the wrong direction. Want Mod X? That's only on store A's workshop but not B or C and requires store A's variant of the game. Want Mod Y? That's only on store B's workshop but not A or C and requires store B's variant of the game. Want Mod Z? That's only on store C's workshop but not A or C and requires store C's variant of the game. What an absolute mess... That Valve took a huge 'walled garden dump' all over the formerly open, friendly, inclusive and platform neutral modding community under the guise of 'convenience' is no reason for GOG, Epic or anyone else to double down on it.

As for subscriptions for a "free access to a catalogue of games", that's simply not going to work for DRM-Free games as subscription based content by definition requires the store to deactivate access to content after the subscription ends, otherwise there's nothing to stop people subscribing for one day, grabbing the lot, backing them up then unsubscribing. So anyone who voted 'yes' for that basically is voting for GOG to become a DRM'd "Software as a Service provider"...
Yeah, I got that email as well.
I'm also not interested in any kind of subscription system.
But I bet you some here will check the box at "I'm not interested in any kind of GOG supscription service", only to then click on the next page on "as a possible reward for a subscription, I want free games" or any of the other answers...

At least two questions (attachment) were basically the same question, only differently worded (the distinction between several/one game(s) doesn't matter to me).

They also were loaded questions, in that they connected two things, independent from each other (price and quality), and basically assumed a more expensive game is automatically of a higher quality than (a) lower priced game(s) - which is bullshit, of course.

Workshop mods for DRM-free games cannot be proprietary. The mods on gog would work for all DRM-free
releases.
Right now mods for games like Riot or Mini Metro are exclusive to Steam, and gog customers are left in
the cold. THAT is unacceptable.
