Aww, this was on my wishlist. I had the disc version forever ago and got rid of it. Never got around to replacing. It's still on Steam at least.

Indeed. Any game removed is a loss, and every adventure game removed is tragedy, because the genre is not doing that well overall - and seems to be often mistreated by GOG (especially when turning down newer titles).



I have always wondered why Jane "cat moustache" Jensen* is considered a great game designer.
It seems all her games start with an interesting plot and unusual protagonist, and then halfway through the game everything falls apart with stupid plot development, bad puzzles, and then there's an obligatory maze that makes no sense.

Still, it would be nice to have all her games available.

It has been removed from every store other than Steam. I wouldn't be surprised if it's removed from Steam as well at the end of the month.

The cat moustache puzzle works within the logic of the game. It's sad people comment on that part instead of something like the mini internet inside the game.

Tell me about it! Say, have you tried Detention? It's my personal favourite adventure game to come out since Blade Runner. Excellent stuff!

Unfortunately, it's not on gog, even though it should be. In the meantime, you can get it on Steam or (DRM-free) on Playism.


I can only speak for myself, but simply put, that reason is GK1. It's one of the few Sierra games that truly hold up in pretty much every regard. The puzzles are logical (ie. the game doesn't play like an elaborate ploy to sell hintbooks), the writing is fun (which is complemented by great voice work) and the VGA graphics have aged exceedingly well (so much so the game could be released today and people would praise it as pixel art).

Wonder what caused the game to disapear from the store. Seems like one that ended up being pulled quickly so might be license issue . Hope it comes back. I have the game but it is sad that people missed it as it was an interesting game.

These "licensing issues" make me sick and don't make sense whatsoever. It's like publishers and/or developers don't want to continue making money or something.And, when games get pulled like that, it doesn't do much good for anyone's reputation either.

Of course, there's the whole thing with abandonware and public domain (correct me if I'm wrong) and it might be, rather than make it "free" (as in beer), they feel like they're losing money, so they just pull it from shelves, so to speak, and put it in their little vaults.

I'm guessing he meant "we couldn't warm users ahead of time".

As to why - perhaps the publishers right to distribute expired and the owners of the IP decided not to sell on GoG and sent an email basically saying take down our game please. GoG complied immediately of course.

For the record - the original owners (WizarBox) of Gray Matter declared bankruptcy in 2012. In 2013 the remnants of the company was transferred to Interaction-games. The publishing agreement was likely still in force so Viva Media (the publisher) could sell the game on GoG in 2014. The publishing agreement probably expired so here we are.

Why is it still on Steam? Maybe Interaction-games wants to keep selling on Steam and transferred rights without interruption. Or maybe Steam hasn't taken down the game yet - it's often slower that GoG in that respect.
