morolf: Sure, but it still shocked me how openly violent this piece of propaganda is. How did this thing ever get accepted on Gog? Strange kind of curation, to say the least.
Come on man. It's a video game. There are plenty of games where you can kill police and civilians. The purpose of the game is fun not political propaganda.

supplementscene: If people carried out things they do in computer games the world would be a very scary place. Fortunately games are escapism for the most part

huppumies: I'm sure most of us have been solving problems in video games with violence and throwing rulers in to lava since Super Mario Bros. and somehow we haven't turned out violent insurrectionists. Go figure.
Just as how violent video games don't cause mass shootings, it is very unlikely anyone will start a communist revolution anytime soon solely because of this game. Advocates for the pro-ban are being overreactive.
Don't give it more attention than it already has. It will go back to obscure status within a week.

Enebias: Don't play this game, it will turn you into an assassin -or worse, a COMMUNIST!
Or, even worst, an ANARCHIST. The horror...

No, but sometimes I go to the zoo and jump on turtles.

Hey, it's a great way to get extra lives.

Or even worse! An Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune!

SmollestLight: Friendly reminder not to dive too deep into real life politics and stick to the game discussion. :) Naturally, you can discuss this and agree to disagree with each other, but please keep it civil and keep the CoC in mind.

patrikc: Curious idea to host such a giveaway, especially considering everything that happened as of late. I'm not even going into specifics about the theme, suffice to say I see it as a poor choice.
Also, how would you define not diving too deep? The way I see it that is somewhat vague.
That is in essence the role of moderation. You will get warned when you get there. Assuming they don't drastically change the rules for a good amount of time, it should be determined by precedence. Since the rules are very unspecific and generally catch-all, I suspect this might also be very arbitrary. At least my experience was such.
I have opinions like anyone else. I'm also consistently against censorship, with virtually no exceptions.

Leaving those things aside....wasn't this offered for free as a giveaway? You could argue that it's been given as propaganda, but you could also see it another way. Anybody who was going to spend money on the game and give it to the devs now don't have to. I'm sure the giveaway netted them some money but it also lets people see what they're about. Do you like their game? Maybe you'll buy the next one then. Do you hate it or not really give a shit? Well you got it free and they still won't get money from you. Unclear whether "large groups of angry people do violent dumb shit for various reasons" is a solid concept to build a game around but it's a pretty common occurrence throughout human history.

For the record I haven't actually played it. I snatched up the free game but I have multiple other games and life stuff (work/school/wife) so I don't know when I'll bother getting to it.
I see no reason to remove a game as long as it's not made volontary to rewrite history or to make volontary a political message. I didn't play this game but it's seems to be not worst than any other violent game where the violence is exagerated just to entertain wich is the purpose of the games. Vo you realy think peoples will go out and start killing after playing this game?

Western democracies have all over the middle east. Also where are you and all the others against rioting when the government trashes people's property with raids?

morolf: Just watched a video of this game, its entire purpose is political propaganda. The game is calling for political violence and depicting the murder of police officers by setting them on fire with Molotov cocktails and the like. Its entire argument is that democratic politics is a sham and only violent action can be successful. Such antidemocratic propaganda shouldn't be sold commercially on Gog.
I therefore created a Wishlist entry calling for its removal:
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/gog_remove_tonight_we_riot_from_the_store

If you agree that this game should be removed from Gog, please vote! We know after all that Gog is receptive to the complaints of gamers who object to certain games being sold in the store.
If anything, you're making the game more popular. :)

I played it for 15 minutes. Game is nothing special. Not worth even talking about.

All the best.

Breja: If the game actually had the option of customising the rioters and the police to be whoever you feel like (Nerds vs Bothered About Dungeons & Dragons! Hippies vs FBI! Vegetarians vs McDonald's security!) it would be a way smarter than game than it is right now.
I've imagined a game somewhat like this. You create an FPS game, where you run around shooting people. The hook is that there's a website for the fan community full of their own created textures, which people can download and use for the enemies. So if you want to shoot purple people, or joggers, or aliens, or nazis, or moms-wheeling-carriages, or whatever, you just dl the texture.

Everyone can then kill whatever types of enemies they want, and because the textures would be fan made, the devs "shouldn't" be held liable.

That's Fallout 3/New Vegas, down to the letter.
