Pre-ordered Soma a few days ago, according to the remaining time on steam it's set to release on the 22nd of this month at 8PM in my time(GMT+2), but on GOG it's set to release on that day at 11PM? Why the difference?

I can't call 1 hour before 23 September a 22 September release, why is it released at a different time from steam?
I was hoping to actually play it on the day it's supposed to be released, but 11PM is way too late, it might as well say "Release date 23 September" in my case.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I can wait a day longer, I'm just wondering why it's different.

And will there be preloading for Soma? Would be awesome if someone from GOG could answer that. :')

I doubt you'll be able to preload. Don't remember GOG ever offering that except for maybe Witcher 3.

Where does it say that it's going to be released at 11 PM? Your account?

No particular reason. Sometimes, games on GOG are released later than Steam and other times, earlier (like the recently-released Dropsy).

Highly doubtful. The only times that preloading has been available on GOG is for Witcher 2 and 3. Nothing else.

Hmm. That is interesting. Perhaps because the DRM-Free version need its own adjustment ? but some games before also released on the same time as Steam version. So maybe only someone from GOG could answer your question..

When I go to my library and click on Soma, there's a countdown timer, but it's 3 hours more than steam.

I see.. despite my account being from 2012 I wasn't using gog much until recently, so I wasn't familiar with that.

I see. 11 PM would be a highly unusual release time for GOG, though, especially if it wasn't based on the wishes of the developer/publisher. I suspect, but can't confirm, that one of the release times (GOG's or Steam's) might change as the game is getting closer to its release date.

I guess you have a point, steam's time seems more accurate considering around 7-8PM is usually the time games are released on steam, perhaps I'll see a change in the timer on GOG or it becomes available before the timer even hits 0.
Guess I'll just wait and see.

IIRC, last game that had a timer it turns out the code was screwed up (shocking!). The timer wasn't UTC based, but instead was for 13:00, or whatever the actual time, for each person locally. As in people in different time zones have different values for the count down.

On our end, I can confirm that the release time for SOMA shouldn't be delayed and the official premiere time for the title that we got from the developer is 9am CEST (click here to WolframAlpha that time to your time zone).

Ah, thanks! Great to hear that it'll be released early in the day. And I see that the countdown has been changed accordingly.
