I disagree. First, bundles are good for collectors like me. We can discuss about how bundles are done lately, how well they they are themed. I like bundles, especially with a special theme, as it allows me to get interesting games of a genre (Strategy bundle), an era (Bullfrog bundle) or a series (Railroad Tycoon) cheaper. At the moment there are many big publisher bundles around, which isn't also bad, but a little more variety with some smaller and better themed bundles would be better.

About the discounts for a single game, I also need to disagree. I use isthereanydeal.com to compare prices and to organize my waitlist. The regular discounts of the games are very competitive, very close to steam and sometimes even better. Not for every game, of course, but for most.

What I really dislike at the moment is the layout. It's messy and confusing. it would be helpful if gog would split the bundles in subgroups, one for publishers, one for the youtubers and one for themed ones like genres. Also to use tiles was fine in the past, but the enormous number of games on sale it's hard to browse. Exactly for that reason I stopped browsing the webpage for deals and instead use isthereanydeal.com to track only the games I'm interested in. I just check the website for the bundles.

I don't know. Actually I like it. There seems to be a mess with Vampire Masquarade price jumping from like 40 to 70% depending where its picked, but otherwise its good.

The Youtuber Bundle prices are fixed, take 1 or all games. I like them. Not very heavy discounted, but good picks (with few exceptions).

The Publisher prices vary between 4 and all games to get discount, but for example in Disney Bundle a careful eye can notice a "whopping" 14% discount on old DOS titles like Lion King (don't want to offend here any fans, only example), but average 50-60% on all else.

So regardless if you buy 3/4 of the bundle or full bundle price stays same as you'll be given these older titles. Kind of like using your own greed to make you pay for these unneeded titles, in the end. Smart move from publisher. I just pick only those I really needed. No problem here.


What is missing or confusing here, IMHO, is absence of TEXT lists of all bundles, like what was already done on Reddit. Its much nicer to find the titles you want in the corresponding bundle that way.

Anyway I recommend to wait until everything is uncovered and decide what to buy.

I agree bundles are not a good thing. I always buy only the game I'm interested and for that I always get less discount. But that's ok.
2 times I was interested in some more games and I got the best discount (morrowind and d&d classic bundle).
the problem is that right now there are like 20-30 bundles and it is even difficult to understand what bundles are actually good and what are bad.
So I'm back to watch my wishlist and only buy 1 game without even care about bundles.

It all comes down to what sells. This isn't the first time they've put bundles on sales and it obviously must be pretty successful for them (despite what a minority on forum say) or else they wouldn't offer them anymore. I think in general the average buyer does prefer bundling. You can thank Humble for that trend.

I vote with my wallet. If I don't feel the love with some bundle or deal, I won't buy it.

I like the GOG bundles because normally they take into account that I have already bought some of the games from GOG. In Steam it is quite normal that I'd end up buying the same game several times because it is not taken into account that I already have many of the games on Steam. Like all those "All Sega games" megabundles and such, the price won't apparently decrease even if I have many of the games in Steam already.

However, lately GOG has been slipping from this a bit as for some games there may be several different variations of the game (e.g. Pillars of Eternity, Age of Wonders 3 etc.), and I recall sometimes having seen two versions of the same game appearing in the same bundle, which is silly.

PS. As it happens, I haven't bought anything yet in this winter sale. I went through the bundles but didn't really see anything I wanted (nor didn't have already) for the price. The Civilization bundle would have been one... but I just bought the bundle a day or two before the winter sale.

Oh well, maybe next time.

I myself have nothing against gog pricing, or bundling. As i said many times over, i even regularly buy games at full price, even. DRM-Free and gog services ARE worth of a bit more, than what you would pay, to any other service around... Also, even if harder, this way you support the DRM-Free Revolution, which thankfully hasn't died out yet (and it never will!), despite the worst choices of devs to sell exclusively through other client-hounds.

My problem is the random "make what you want" bundle type, together with different, arbitrary grouping of different games from same company. I wanted two shoot em ups from Activision, but they are in different bundles and this is troubling me (since i also have other items in wishlist, too). Packages like former themed bundles were okay, like the D&D old franchise (before crapdog kicked in), the Square Enix complete pack, the Interplay complete pack and others...

I would prefer the premade bundles of 3 + previous sales era before. I will wait till the end of winter sales and if nothing changes, i will simply buy what i have on wishlist and end it there. But yeah, generally, more Steam-like pricing would make everyone some justice, around here. Hmmm, how can someone get Steam prices, but with GOG quality services and within GOG environment, i wonder... Is that even possible?

Hadn't been for that stupid economic crisis that is getting worse by each passing month, i wouldn't even endorse those who nag for prices in the first place (or worse, indirectly agree with those who do), or more expensive bundling than older style... Damn.

Yup, there are some weird bundle "deals" in the sale. For instance, Devolver 2. The way to get the best discount is to NOT select the entire bundle. Once you add the newer releases - namely Okhlos and Mother Russia Bleeds - the discount drops from 60% down to 49%. And somehow, by adding the Hotline Miami 2 Upgrade (but excluding those other 2 games) the discount leaps up to 74%, saving you almost 10 bucks - even though that package includes the full Special Edition. Or leave the full Special Edition out of it and buy the base game and upgrade and you save another buck, even though their combined price is higher than buying the SE version.

That's the screwiness found in one bundle. Are the rest of them like that, too?

Discounts are great and all, but there oughta be some sense to making them work. Put all of Devolver's lower-discount stuff together in one spot: Gungeon, Okhlos, MRB, etc., so they don't screw with the bundle deals on games with larger discounts.

My main gripe is that, for the second sale in a row, Age of Wonders 3 is 7.59€, the Deluxe Edition is 8.79€... but the upgrade is NOT discounted and goes for 6.99 € (!). So I basically have to buy the base game again just to upgrade? WTF!

This is how its intended, its not screwy. Remember that, in the bundle you refer to, when you select 7 games or more the discounts for all games jumps up to another tier. So, in your example, when you selected one more game and the overall discount suddenly went up to 74%, that's because you reached the 7 game requirement for the highest discount. Pay attention to the individual discounts, not just the total discount.

Basically, it comes down to choices. If you don't want the newer games that only max out at 10% off, then just select the older ones at 75% and that will be your total discount for everything. If you add one of the new games at 10% then of course your average discount will be pulled down, but the individual games at 75% will remain at 75%.

What about replacing youtuber bundles with GOGmix bundles? I think if they go through the work of offering the gogmix service they should make gogmix bundles. Something steam users would envy. I think a GOG-only gogmix bundle would sell very well. A lot of people don't want to dig through a lot of stuff to find something good, cough* steam store*

a BYOB GOGmix bundle would be a steam sale killer.
