rampancy: So it really is that simple, huh? 1.7.53 hasn't yet hit the repo for Wineskin, but once it does I'll give it a try on my Mac.

JudasIscariot: Yeah, it really is :)

It helps that they really worked on XAUDIO support in version 1.7.53 as I was getting XAUDIO crash-to-desktop errors in version 1.7.50 and 1.6.2 for whatever reason :/

Just be sure to make a clean wine prefix and only install the winetricks I listed and you should be fine but I am not sure how things are on the Mac side of WINE myself :)
On earlier versions, I believe you can do
winetricks xact
to get the game to work (in addition to the other winetricks that I mentioned). I know I have played over 90 hours (not counting reloads, of which there were many) on a wine-1.6.2 install.

Possibly, I am not sure :) Still kind of a noob when it comes to WINE :)

It seems as though 1.7.53 is the key; I tried half a dozen different versions of WINE in the 1.6.x and 1.7.xx range, along with installing xact, wmp and a few other related .dlls in winetricks before giving up. The closest I ever got was getting the game running up until the opening cinematic.

JudasIscariot: Yes, I am into WINE but it's mostly because I like experimenting and seeing if I can make things work and I hope that my experimentation helps others out here as well :)
Do you document your successful tries somewhere?

Thanks for the Banished tip!

I will document this latest one in AppDB in this app: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=17113

I've just recently gotten around to playing with Wine so I am a little slow on documenting this because a) I am still very new to this and b) I like to make sure that a bug is actually a bug and not just user error or a configuration error caused by a messy wine prefix :)
One other thing to try: put your WINE prefix on a btrfs subvolume. This allows you to make a snapshot of it, which is like copying the entire WINE prefix except that it is nearly instant and doesn't use up storage space; perfect for when you want to try different things. If something you try doesn't work, you can just restore from the snapshot and try something different.

(Yes, btrfs is considered experimental, but your experimental WINE prefix isn't exactly critical data that would be hard to replace.)
Signed, for more Linux compatible games on GOG.

That's what I was thinking about :-)
Thanks for your efforts.

The best thing to avoid problems outlined in point b) is to always install in clean Wine prefix.

If you happen to come across a game that isn't supported by Wine yet or suffers from some deal-breaking bugs, you can always contact Wine developers directly, they've proved most helpful. Also, if you're a subscriber, I''ve heard you're eligible for filing support ticket for immediate expert assistance in troubleshooting and fixing reported problems. Lastly, Mandriva developers have recently opened a [url=https://www.gog.com/forum/general/tutorial_and_fix_portal_for_running_windows_games_in_linux/post1]Linux gaming portal where they have also kindly offered to help with talked about issues.

DoctorGOGgles: There are still many games with native Linux versions available on Humble, but not on GOG.

Any plans to bring their Linux versions here in the foreseeable future?
I've been waiting for the Linux version of PixelJunk Monsters HD for ages. Of course, it is already available on Steam... and has been since the game was released here on GOG.

Latest test data submitted for Elminage Gothic :)

Johnathanamz: and so far Windows 10 has been installed on 110 million PC's.
I wonder how much of these are "surprise" upgrades: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/10/windows-10-upgrade-installing-automatically-on-some-windows-7-8-systems/ (and that "mistake" was going at least 2 months before the media covered it...)

Either I'm looking at the wrong page or your newly submitted test is not listed. There's only the previous entry from more than two weeks ago.

It's in the submission queue so someone has to approve it :/
I guess this may be of interest to gog.com linux users: GOG Galaxy in-game overlay and multiplayer on WINE . :)
