Hi everyone,

About a week ago, I bought a game: Sacred 2 Gold.
I installed it, and couldn't get it to work. So I wrote a review that was not so favorable.
Later, I figured out that the game isn't the problem. It *does* run. Just as long as you don't try to run it from GOG Galaxy!!!

Now I find that there is no way to edit or amend my original review to add this important information, and that I cannot write a new review either!
And there is no way to contact GOG about this inability to provide correct information, either.

I should be able to SHARE the information that I have, because it might help others.
I should be able to SHARE this information, because it might help someone figure out what's wrong with GOG Galaxy that it didn't work.

I should have an option somewhere to CONTACT the GOG staff and tell them about my experience so they know what's going on. The "contact us" page does not allow for that option at all, unless they've hidden it under some very odd euphemism.

So, lacking any other means of making myself heard, this is the only recourse I have left: leave a message about a critical failure in the forum, where it is open to EVERYONE, because GOG alone will not listen. I didn't want to go there. But apparently, that's what it takes to be heard.
For reasons known only to them GOG doesn't allows reviews to be edited (probably because a helpful review can be edited into something else). However you can always open a support ticket and try to get them to update your review. You need to be patient though as these types of issues might not be of high priority.

Hello.

The "contact us" link at the bottom header is incomplete (and thus leads nowhere), but you can contact GOG through the Support link at the top header.

Go here:
https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Select "Account and Website" as the issue type and "other website issues" as the problem type. Fill the rest of the fields (e-mail address, subject and description) with the necessary information and you should be good to go.

Bobo_Sims: Hi everyone
Hi you can go to support or ask one of the blues to edit or remove it for you.
It's no big deal.
You just gotta be persistent and patient. man.

I'm sorry, but I have to say that what you wrote was not a "review that was not so favorable".

Here is the full text for reference:

I recently bought this game, and now it will not run. I press the "PLAY" button which goes grey. Iwait a few seconds, and the button goes green again. No error reports, notifications, Just nothing. Then I tried to verify/update, which it did (after a waaaayyyy to long period of downloading the file list), and it still won't run. Same problem... This hurts.
This is not a review of a game, favorable or otherwise.

Just to clarify, you have the full right to complain if a game you bought is not working, but the review page is not the place to do so. Did you check the forums? Did you post there? Did you try contacting technical support? Those are the places where you should have written your note.

Reviews, as the name suggests is where reviews go. If the game has technical problems, bugs and often fails to start, then by all means mention them in your review. But texts like "1 star because no linux version lol fail" or "cant get music to run pls help" don't' belong there.

Reminds me of a review I saw on Amazon for a game, this is true: 'Game is terrible, awful; Amazon never sent it.'

Hence my wish to edit it, so it's more helpful to others.
How on earth do you expect me to write a game-specific review of a game that I can't even start? I had no experience at all with the game, because it failed to START!!!
My review was relevant enough, considering the circumstances.

However, the biggest point is the fact that you cannot edit your review at all, REGARDLESS of its content. They should at LEAST allow people to later add a comment to their own post.

I don't expect you to. Don't write one.

No it wasn't. Considering the circumstances, you should have asked for help in the forums or contacted technical support.

There are actually good arguments against allowing indiscriminate editing of reviews. A 10 minute grace period to allow correction of typos would be ok. But simply allowing editing any time would open a whole new can of worms (like purposely writing a good review so it gets to the "most helpful" spot and then editing it to say the complete opposite). There are some things which should be done to allow users change reviews if a new version makes part of the old review obsolete (possibly resetting its helpfulness score to prevent abuse), but simply allowing anyone to edit a review any time is not the answer. The review system here needs a complete overhaul.

This is actually not a bad idea. Let people add comments to reviews. As I said, the whole system needs to be changed. Too bad it's not part of GOG's priorities.

Look, I didn't mean to come out harsh. I appreciate you taking the time to review a game you bought, but please don't use the reviews system to ask for technical help.

In the meantime, to get your review edited, check Grargar's post on how to contact support.

ZFR: [...] please don't use the reviews system to ask for technical help.
What I love are the older "reviews" (from before the hover cards were implemented, allowing one to initiate a Chat convo just by hovering over a username) that asked for help, apparently expecting or hoping for an actual response somehow. Comedy gold! :D
@ZFR: or +ZFR (or whatever the command may be to tag someone...)

In fact, I *did* not ask for help in my review. I reviewed the software as a bad deal based on the fact that it didn't seem to work at all, and that there was no apparent explanation for this malfunction! I think that's something completely different from asking for help.

And that's also why I was hoping to amend my review, to add the statement that I later found that clicking the shortcut OUTSIDE GOG Galaxy actually *did* cause the game to run properly. And THAT was where GOG was not helpful. My problem is not with starting the game. It's with the review system that doesn't allow very well for corrections and amendments.

I get it that this is not GOG's priority. But it SHOULD be, because the current bad review might stop people from buying this game, while a positive amendment might put their concerns at ease. So bad deal, GOG.

Bobo_Sims: And THAT was where GOG was not helpful.
Did you contact GOG using the link Grargar posted?

GOG employees don't necessarily read the forums, so if you want your review changed, or suggest any changes to the whole review system, then contacting them using that link is your best option.

ZFR: Did you contact GOG using the link Grargar posted?
No, I did not. And I do not intend to. I've blown off my steam, the frustration of not being able to start this game from within Galaxy, like I've gotten used to with ALL games that I buy from GOG. And my frustration about not being able to correct myself, which I still think is a bad business decision. I'm not going to jump through hoops trying to get their attention, though. They don't. So why would I?

But I appreciate Grargar's effort/gesture and your suggestion.
