I do not think gog.com really needs to go back to those roots, not all that many classic old video games left to be released for sale. Other than No One Lives Forever 1 and No One Lives Forever 2, 007 Nightfire, and a few other.

I am seeing a lot more negative reviews of AAA video games on Steam getting negatively reviewed for using Denuvo or having to log in through a second account and being asked to release those video games for sale 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free on gog.com.

So at least Steam PC gamers seeing gog.com is a huger plus seeing gog.com get mentioned on Steam a bit this past year or two years.

You don't know what you are talking about. There are literally thousands of older games GoG could pursue obtaining licensing for and updating and releasing here. Just look at the games wishlist.

GoG has decided to chase profits by mostly selling new releases, because it is the low hanging fruit and the gamers on this site are to blame by encouraging it, when buying new releases at ripoff prices.

True, but how many of that figure would justify the costs(like getting the rights holders onboard/testing them on modern systems/etc) to bring them to GOG?

Well there was only so much money to be made selling the same games to the same userbase(market saturation being a thing)especially older games with a lower profit margin. Also some newer games are liked by some people(including myself).

That said, I agree on some GOG releases of modern games and some remakes/remasters being overpriced.

You can only go back to root if you have superuser privileges.

(But it would be neat for GOG to do "Registered Shareware Collections")

They don't have a magic wand, they can't create new licensing deals out of nothing. If the rights can't be secured then they can't be secured. You don't think they'd love to sell NOLF here considering how much hype they put into shit like Star Wars Racer?

These threads always ignore reality.

To be honest, the release schedule is actually quite good. It’s one of the few things that does work. Good mix of old and new games, with good variety. Are there games they should (or are) looking at to bring here, most definately. Can’t really see them speeding up releases as they can only get so many, and if you follow the front page for a while you will see, that for the rest of the time they have to run endless sales to fill the voids of no releases.

it is free in the same way as all the games on Pirates Bay are free as well

you might want to argue it is abndonware, but that's not a legal term in any way, and is just piracy where the license holders don't care.

so, no - Freelancer is not free, but you can use your links to get a cracked version, for whatever that's worth.

Money is also free!!! You just have to rob a bank.

FWIW you can still get a second hand retail copy if you badly want to own it. I did.

No, GOG doesn't need to go back. It just needs to finally get its s*** together!
It could be a great store, if only effort were directed towards actually useful things instead of... whatever they're doing right now.

sure, everything to grab a point, for not all to long ago it was even not against the law to download hacked stuff, just as long as you did not share this yourself you where not doing anything wrong. Now of course this has changed but sites such as abandonware are in equally gray area's atm and what a site such as pirate bay offers is certainly not in a grey area since that is, well abandoned from the right side, the good side of the law
