I was deliberately being a touch more sloppy and selectively feisty than I would normally because I wanted to get a nice wagon going on me to then drop my innocent childness.

Maybe read Oakwood. I think I fake tone well... it's like acting in a play... Ironic then that's how I prefer to read players. Although I'd say it's not really tone I'm going for, I go for character and how it's matching or not actions and words.

What I think I really lack is more basic experience, like I don't know how to drive wagons, I don't know how to select nightkills, no real idea how to judge typical role interactions, etc... For example, I can assure you I'd continue to go after Zork until town PRs or flips would put more info on the table and I'd get a scummier read - heck my read list was a lot about starting to maybe convert people towards voting and lynching zork (I would ofc vote jump to anyone else than you / Nacho to avoid no lynch though)

1 - I was sure a Deep Smelly Dungeon game would have lots of roles, especially given Yogs awesome sauce signup comments. I resisted asking people if they had read the original game because I didn't want to be too towny making sense.
2 - Tunneling on him contributed to get scum to look at me as mislynch meat rather than NK one. Although I saw Wyrm went fishing for me to have PR at least once.
3 - More importantly and I wrote on my reads which hit the thread lock: comparing his claim to the others, him not giving flavor was pinging me. Turns out you and Nacho were the ones lying but that's hindsight. So between him getting emotional, acting disignenuous, not giving flavor and all that, I thought there was some small chance he was bold scum playing some gambit. Plus as Wyrm pointed out and I don't think it was just scum BS, sure there's no upside of lynchign scum, but also no downside of outing town PR or mislynching them by going for Zork. Trent likes to say we shouldn't trust PRs to save town and I agree... but see 1
Lastly, the fact if he was being honest he basically decided he didn't have to play and deserved to win regardless... f that shit. I still can't believe he actually is like that. It's like he was proud of being uber floater? Kill that with fire, to paraphrase him. You play the game to win, but you play the game. He did not want to play, but still win? Well I'm happy to oblige him half way.

See? Doesn't matter that I don't really believe it... pushing people's buttons to analyze character and maybe see which way they might stumble seems to me so much easier than analyzing their progs... I don't see this as wrong footedness... we coexist and complement well I think...

I can see the thought behind that. I will say, though, that in faking what you were actually thinking, trying to follow your logic and sentence structure was really danged mushy.

I think the strat also plays differently both based on execution, and who's alive/not when you stump it up. A number of players had already written off your posts, so even if you confirm town with flip, you would have some work to do to lure them back into actually following your reads.

The other issue with this approach is the "adalia problem." If you actively work to be scummiest to draw flies, there's no guarantee you won't draw an all-town wagon. If I'd entered Sat instead of SR, I would've been all over Wyrm. If I'd entered later as town...I'm not sure.

Like Drealmer I didn't really think it was your scum game, but I didn't know what the hell you were doing but it seemed pretty distracting in a game that already had enough distractions and I might have been tempted to vote you just to resolve it.

I have one question that has probably been asked already or the answer is publicly available, but it's still easier to ask.

@MU players that may have played on our forum: Was the 10 minutes lock a problem for you ever?

I'm just curios on how things look from the other side of the fence. Like I wrote before, I always thought of this a annoying limitation but when I faced a game without it I saw what difference in pace it results in.

From what I saw most if not all MU players are actually from other communities. I wonder if others have similar limitations/rules that don't apply at MU or wherever else you are playing. How are dealing with that?

I don't think the 10 min lock influences the amount of writing all that much. It does encourage shorter/faster posts, which is neither inherently good or bad imo.

If you want to re-read my last Smurf game, I altered the usual GoG rules and allowed post-merges, and it was a 2+ week game that resolved in <500 posts.

Admittedly, post merges don't count as discrete posts, but even accounting for those it [would have been] maybe 600-700.

TLDR: I don't think that mechanic really drives/hinders pace (in terms of wordcount, anyway) very much.

It does. There is zero chance of you convincing me otherwise. I'm not saying it's a tremendous difference but it's far from marginal. Even the fear of missing something of importance or making a mistake that may cost your play, life or even game asks for attention which takes time.

As a follow-up, I think the pace is largely cultural. As Newcomb noted, even on MU you get stoics and lurkers in the mix, just a lower percent of them overall in a typical game.

Here cristi or hunter is on the low end (by post count) almost always, but the average count tends to be closer to where they finish than it is to where, say, me/drealmer/yogs would typically finish.

Heck mate, when you started pushing I was relieved someone finally had... tom also did a bit, but he played it differently and eventually backed off to research me... Only thing I didn't like was the time it took me to read and answer you... I was not lying about the lazy / busy motivation. If anything, my main worry was to not be too towny answering, but I had no real conscious idea how to do that... as wolf I play town, so in WIFOM way, I mostly thought to try and be towny, but douchy, and put in less work. Tammy was spot on that I usually wordsmith / sculpt posts more. she might have underestimated what the more conversational software did to my output though... :)

Yes it was when I played. I often will freely post without revising or making sure all my thoughts are in a post because I can just post afterwards. Realizing I could not do that and always had to make mega posts if I had a lot to say at once was something to adjust to.

I've mostly played mafia on MU so that's what's set my usual customs

Nah I got what you meant in the end about the lazy/busy thing and I believed it. My doubts were why you were stating it like it was a strategy to hold back when I first noticed it. I've definitely been lazy in some games before because I wanted to do other stuff IRL. I just wouldn't phrase it as trying to hang back in game so I didn't get the intent until later
