yogsloth: Although as I sit here working on the game - writing up little bits and bobs - I realize it simply might not be possible to run it on MU.

Those of you who have played my games know something about how it goes - but for those of you who haven't played, my games are stories. The extensive flavor text in the game is part of it, but every player receives a piece of the story every night and part of the fun is trying to see how it all fits together. Once the game is over everyone gets to see how it actually all went, with lots of surprises and easter eggs and silliness and such.

It's not like the modbot just spitting out the result of your night action.

I don't know how I would do all that on MU with strictly timed deadlines, as (especially in the early game with many players alive) it takes me several hours to write up the night action PMs, and what you get is frequently not cut-and-dry.
Modbot can reveal as much, or as little, as you want.

For your game, I'd suggest you treat it like a completely custom game - just have the modbot not reveal the flips for the lynch, and have it not run any actual role actions. You can do all of that yourself, however you like - in a notepad, QuickTopic, spreadsheet, however you normally do it. If you need extra time at night, you can manually lock the thread after the bot starts the day. Since you're doing all actions yourself, no one will have died. Then just send whatever PMs need to get sent.

Idk I'm not doing a great job of explaining it. Basically, you run the game however you'd run it here, just the modbot handles votes and starts and ends the days. The flips, and when people are allowed to post, and who dies, are all manually done by you.

On a related note, I think I'm going to have to pass on the game if it's hosted here. I totally get it from a perspective of having played here a while, it's not that bad, you get used to it, etc. And I even get the reluctance to play somewhere else. For those of you who are skeptical, I'd encourage you to give it a chance. No one else can post in that game thread; it'll just be like you're playing here, except the thread redirects you to a slightly different looking game thread that actually has mafia-conductive tools. You don't have to worry about a bunch of new people or learning a new community or whatever.

I really think you guys should give it a chance. It's just an ease-of-use thing. Why make the game harder than it has to be? Take all the headaches out of the way and let the craziness of yog's game and the actual play be the only thing we have to worry about.

fake edit:

That being said I really would like to play; it would be super fun, in particular, to play with Nacho, Tammy (if she decides she's in!), and Stanari again.

If you manage to do that let me know how :P
Uncle Yoggie, tell me a STORY!

yogsloth: Give me your opinions, but for now the default is we stay here.
Meh.

yogsloth: @Hijack

Are you both willing to play starting the 10th?
I can do that, sure.

Oh yeah, I'm literally hours into this already.

...

And I'm now leaning to moving to Mafia Universe.

Hopefully we don't lose too many people along the way.

The OP alone is looking pretty damn boss with gifs and text formatting. :)

I'll be upset if it gets moved and all the ppl who are signed up don't go over

but it is your call

and I will come there if you do it there

and it will be exciting to see there

just saying

let us encourage them that it will be worth it!!!!!
oh my avatar finally showed up.
cool

i am obviously ok with a move to MU
I also think it is nice having new players here to give us a try. If we have a well-hosted game here and get ppl accustomed to the quirks of the forum and who enjoy plyaing here with us, great! Maybe they will return too for other games that appeal! I think that is the way to go with it.

They have come here, signed up, willing to give us a try. I say that is great and let's go with that.

I might not be willing to do the transition to MU. Being unfamiliar with the software and what not, I may just pass on it. I know it sounds as if I was opposed to change, but it's more along the lines that I don't wanna go through the hassle of switching to another system. I don't care about gifs, and that hasn't stopped anyone from linking them in their texts or using links in posts before, so that's a moot point.

This and the limitations that GOG's posting presents should be virtually negligible to someone's contribution. Unless they go drealmer style and post the great wall of china text.

Lastly, I feel like having all of our games here is easier to keep track of them and read through them. But that's me.

Let me know what you decide. Right now I'm not that inclined to switch over. Maybe one day. Who knows.
Actually, after looking at the interface of MU and the post design, I totally hate it. It looks clunky and terrible. 0 warmth. I'll pass on the game if it switches there. I couldn't care less about that place at this point in time.

The whole GOG mafia community would have to migrate there for me to be willing to join.
I would play on MU move for the sake of this game if everyone is on board but honestly I'm not thrilled by the idea of having to visit yet another site for yet another daily activity :)
