To be honest I was mostly being facetious with the original accusation. It was a playful way of saying let's stop this line of enquiry. Lift's reaction to that is more interesting in some ways.

Even if Lift is a survivor he could have answered with "No, I'm not." so I'm not sure that the fact he didn't is particularly AI. It's kind of a pointless question because the answer is going to be no either way. It's not like he has a post restriction that requires him to be truthful if he answers a direct question about his alignment. Or at least we have no reason to think that.
I agree it's mildly interesting that he brushed the question off. But in the context of Lift's response to Bookwyrm it's kind of interesting.

I see my refusal to claim was discussed. Bookwyrm, who is scummy, wanted to know my role. Or at least a denial or confirmation of my neutrality. Joe, who is likely town, also expressed that I should have answered. I find that a bit strange, since it's quite customary not to claim unnecessarily.

@ZFR: as the only mostly confirmed town player, what do you think. Should I answer bookwyrm's question or not?

Alignment fishing is just an unusually direct way of going about the actual goal of the game which is to find those who aren't town. Asking if someone is neutral is no worse than asking if someone is scum or town. How you choose to react to the question is your business, and it's of questionable value since no one is going to say anything other than town, but there's nothing bad about asking.

Rolefishing is bad in the context of town roles. Do you consider it equally bad to ask someone if they're a godfather or a serial killer?

Pretty much. This is note role-fishing; it's alignment-fishing. Nothing bad there. If you're Town, answer: I'm Town. If you're Neutral or Mafia, you'll answer whichever you think best suits your wincon: either lie "I'm Town" or lie/tell-truth "I'm Neutral".
Or don't answer.

PS, the only reason I thought a Neutral is in this game is because I thought it increased from 3-Mafia-11-player into 3-Mafia-12-player. If that were the case, one of the easier way of balancing is to add a Neutral. I no longer now think we have a Neutral. If this changed from 2-Mafia-11-player into 3-Mafia-12-player, then a Townie was added.

I do find your defensiveness weird, but not completely out of character with Town!Lift. I'm totally not a fan of you asking me whether you should answer because I'm confirmed Town. I remember you remarking in previous games that confirmed Townies are not oracles.
