Joe, you better give me one this time.

for easy search: braggingrights
You never did explain--despite what i think was a direct question--as to why you find me interesting. Are you scum?

avatar
dedoporno: Also on Micro I forgot to mention that another thing that stood out afterwards was that he changed his vote from Wyrm to Leoric based on random.org results. That makes it look like that original vote on Wyrm was just RVS stuff since it got replace by a random vote but if that's the case was it worth it all the effort to vote the in-game name and then re-vote the actual name in order to make the vote stick?
I only re-voted Wyrm because someone asked me nicely to not use in-game names.

One RVS vote is as good as another, and I recalled that I'd wanted to use Random.org last game but held off for fear that i'd be correctly seen as scum in that game.
This game I have no such qualms.

+++++

Theory: more RVS votes are better than fewer, because it actually applies pressure to more people.
Question: If true, does it matter how many people one votes for, or is it more of a "If a body...vote a body...coming through the [forum]... er..."everybody vote for somebody who hasn't been voted yet so we can see the reaction from--and at--as large of a pool as possible?"
Discuss.
avatar
GymHenson: No worries......newcomers usually get one "day"(D1) of unofficial immunity anyways.
I love it! Maybe I should register a new account for every game to take advantage of it.

avatar
GymHenson: Do you suspect anyone yet, or think anyone is likely town, or have any other thoughts on the game/players you'd like to share with us?
I'll be honest and tell my naive observation. The only thing I know now is a good guy should be honest. Correct me if I made stupid mistakes.

I knew a little bit about Joe and Fish two years ago in Secret Hilter games, so I'll talk about them first.

Joe have been very relax and chill (and somehow maybe a little bit cocky?) and in my memory (2 years ago) Joe always invest a lot of emotion in games. Maybe he changed a lot since then, but up till now I vaguely feel he is on the good side. That feeling may change in the next rounds but we will see.

Fish just randomly voted me which make sense because in my memory he always did things make no sense at all.

Was I just playing meta? Somebody told me meta play is bad in other games.

The rolefishing thing Bookworm did was controversial(?) and seems like a bold move. In my imagination, bad guys won't do that so maybe they're a good guy?

I'm very curious about that, under which circumstance, rolefishing would be considered superior? That sounds like a completely bad move to me since you would expose your PR fellow townie.

While Dogmaus is a little bit suspicious to me. They were playing newbie card (which I did too) and talked about IRL stuff (which I did too again) to distract attention from them. But since the same thing can be exactly applied to me, well, maybe call them suspicious is too strong.

avatar
GymHenson: After you're back now, one question: was this vote intentionally left un-bolded? I.e. did you intentionally place an invalid vote? Or was that an accident and you meant it as real vote?
I didn't do anything intentionally. I was going to vote NL because I saw other people did and I thought that's how first round usually works. NEWBIE CARD!

@Lift I think I'll vote NL because I haven't fully persuaded by your speech. Could we just go after everybody for their thoughts but ended up vote-NL if no one seems suspicious? Vote random people in the first round without enough information sounds like kill townie for bad guys to me. Though I don't know about EV and stats like that and Pooka won't explain to me. Bad Pooka.
avatar
Leoric_AKA_Leo: I knew a little bit about Joe and Fish two years ago in Secret Hilter games, so I'll talk about them first.
Wow, it's been that long?! It's been too long! Glad to be playing again in a game with you!

avatar

Hey! I Object :D xD

Also, i used random.org to randomize the player list, and then voted the person at the top (you).

Also, yes, the first round usually ends in a mis-lunch or no-lunch, but the thought is that--unless the lunch was a PR--we probably lose a vanilla- (no-power-) town. This doesn't immediately cripple the town team and from this we can see who supported the lunch, who backed off, who talked big but then let others act for them, etc.
Then the guessing game comes into play with guessing, cross-guessing, second- and third-guessing, etc.
avatar
GymHenson: IIRC the scum team then was also lurkers and/or newbies as well. Could be wrong though....might have been the third game before this one.
The next to last game it was Joppo and myself. I wouldn't categorize neither of us as newbie or a lurker.

avatar
Microfish_1: I only re-voted Wyrm because someone asked me nicely to not use in-game names.
Yes, I got that on a re-read.

avatar
Microfish_1: One RVS vote is as good as another, and I recalled that I'd wanted to use Random.org last game but held off for fear that i'd be correctly seen as scum in that game.
That's the other thing I noticed afterwards. I agree that if you're into RVS voting it doesn't really matter who you vote when you don't have anything to go after. The thing is you already had a vote that you did present some reasoning for. Then you proceeded to change that vote to another one based off random.org in your very next post without saying anything about it and that looks a bit weird to me. The fact that both ZFR (I believe he even voted you?) and myself expressed some level of interest towards you after your original choice is likely just a coincidence but who knows.

avatar
Microfish_1: Theory: more RVS votes are better than fewer, because it actually applies pressure to more people.
If a vote is clearly presented as RVS does it really apply pressure?

Leoric_AKA_Leo: I love it! ~ and other Leoric musings ~
I like most of this post quite a bit.

Going off just by the numbers it's more likely to hit Town on D1, yes. Even though that may take us down a notch it's still better than doing nothing as we're more likely get into N1 and D2 with more information to work with. We'll know who took part in voting off that Townie, who didn't, how each of these people backed up their cases and so on. Additionally, the Townie that gets voted off isn't just removed randomly. It's very likely they were voted off for a reason - they did or said something that made them look worse than the rest and/or didn't defend well enough. If they end up in a situation where they are heavily suspected it's not a terrible thing to remove that question mark so it doesn't continue to hog all of the attention on the following Day(s). Day 1 in these games tends to be very annoying/boring most times because we lack a starting point. If we do nothing on D1 to change that D2 is likely going to be the same thing but one of us would have been killed overnight for free. Not good. Sure, you may argue that we likely have power roles and some of them may provide that extra information we didn't push for during the day but what if that role is the one who gets killed off before being able to share with the rest of us?

I see. So even we go after everyone in the first round, if no one ended up getting killed, there will be nothing solid to talk about in the next round.
@Lift Now I understand.
@dedo Thanks for the explanation.

I read through again, and there seems to be a lot of hooks and bites going on. They're all make sense but-

So you meant your unbolded 'vote' as actual vote? Which would have put NL at L-1 very early in Day 1. Didn't it occur to you that that is a very incautious thing to do? Even if, at that point, you thought NL to be a good thing. Cutting the Day that short never is. How are we supposed to find out things if we don't have time to discuss?

GymHenson: Unvote Leoric
Speaking of fishing, who left this one flopping all over the place?

avatar
Leoric_AKA_Leo: And Bookwyrm haven't confirmed their vote on me?
I noted you as potential trouble because of inactivity, but I never voted you. Culture here says "Don't lynch newbies on Day 1 if there's a decent alternative option", and D1 almost always has an alternative.

avatar
Leoric_AKA_Leo: Actually it was because I'm a good guy, so I thought I won't need to pay as much attention as bad guy does. Now I know that's wrong. I'll post more.
Townies have two jobs. 1) Find the bad guys and vote them. 2) Get yourself marked as "Not scum" by the other townies; this allows townies to work together.

Participating in the game is vital to accomplishing Goal 2 so you don't end up getting lynched because people can't tell whether you're town.

avatar
GymHenson: IIRC the scum team then was also lurkers and/or newbies as well. Could be wrong though....might have been the third game before this one.
Please fact-check instead of speculating, especially when you aren't sure and it is easily confirmed.

RVS votes themselves do nothing but facilitate conversation and allow for someone to make a statement (or mistake) that starts real conversation. Old Time RVS votes didn't even apply pressure because they would never be used to get a wagon going.

[Thoughts on some players]
I agree with Dedo: this [reactions to the other players] is exactly the kind of thing I think you should be doing and I'd like to see more of it.

I also agree with Lift and Dedo on No Lynch. Deleting my paragraph on it since I don't really have anything new to say.

Oh hey. Day 1 ends tomorrow. We have 28 hours left to lynch someone.

I no longer like my vote where it currently is. Let's fix that.

Unvote Flub.
Vote GymHenson.

If I'm not mistaken, the current vote count is thus:
No-Lynch - JoeSapphire
JoeSapphire - Lifthrasil, dogmaus
Leoric - microfish
Microfish - ZFR
Dogmaus - mango
Gym - catte, Bookwyrm
Mango - Leoric

flubbucket: Sooooo Mango and Leoric because they're new AND not currently voting??

that's probably not a good idea(if you were serious.....though I assume you were joking with this), as it might upset a number of players.

I believe I said before: I am a wee bit lazy. I will try to do a bit better in this regard, though.

Still, there were at least two recent games(last game and one other) with newbies and/or lurkers as the scum team....this much i'm pretty sure of.

Yay, my second vote :D :D :D

(also tbqh, I am somewhat ok with it if I actually do end up the day's lynch.....though obviously I would prefer it if I could keep playing as long as possible.....as i'd gladly take one for the team if it'll keep a more experienced player that can help town win the game in the game. Also also inb4 "this is so LAMIST!")
