Korotan: Well I play sadly all time the same. Because I am such good hearted person on borderline to naive, that I have problem trying to gauge reactions, seeing lies or recocnizing when I get manipulated, that my psychotherapist advised me to playing this game so I get better understanding humans.
You seem to at least have an excuse.....that's just how you play "naturally".

With others they(no offense meant) seem to have developed a way of seeing posts and actions, and little can change their minds on it, like to them: x is always a scum tell or almost always, and y is a town tell or almost always.....like they're playing from some sort of book and not deviating much from it.

Yes, this can be helpful sometimes, but it seems(from the games i've played) to be near almost as unhelpful as (for one) scum can capitalize upon such once they recognize such a player's reactions to various posts/actions & can plan accordingly.

avatar
Korotan: Well luckily for me this time I am just here to enjoy the show because of this awesome fluff.
You too?

+++++++++++++++++

For you and all, some fluff to wet yer whistle a bit:

I went through my pack as I continued to sip from my flask, looking at various things i'd collected from pre-war times, which i'd found in my travels. Old magazines, books, and comics.....old food wrappers with interesting images on them....even these odd little things someone once told me were called cardposts, one with a nice sunny scene and the word ALOHA on it.

"Must've been a nice place before the war...I wonder if it still is?" I think to myself as I smile and look at my collection.

Pookina: Based on previous incidents, I think the games where GH was lynched early had him turn up Town more often than scum.
Of course. One is Town more often than scum.
avatar
ZFR: Of course. One is Town more often than scum.
Ya know...I actually hope you're scum.

Cuz if I somehow did get up to claim, claimed, and ended up lynched anyways....let's just say I won't be above a few chuckles and "I told ya so" at end of game if it turns out later you were town and tunneling.

Does that make me a bad egg tho? This I wonder. :|

Pookina: Based on previous incidents, I think the games where GH was lynched early had him turn up Town more often than scum.
Also, even if this was true, it seems a backwards way of looking at things. You don't want to lynch him early becaue when he's lynched early he's more often Town?

avatar
Pookina: I must have missed the conversation on why he's scummy, though.
267+. Especially 279.
avatar
ZFR: 267+. Especially 279.
You mean the wanting to get people to claim range on wagons so they claim early and we can have more time to pick the right lynch candidate?

The same thing i've done in several other games before this?

That thing?
avatar
Pookina: Granted, I think you shouldn't be lynched, at least not right now. But you make the prospect of lynching you on D1 so...I dunno, compelling?
avatar
Pookina: I must have missed the conversation on why he's scummy, though. Any posts I should read about him?
So what's so compelling about voting him if oyu don't even know what's scummy about him?

avatar
Pookina: The closest we have to a solid case on D1. It's not every game that we see a case like this on D1, and I agree with ZFR's sentiment: pretending to ask about the inner workings of the scum is something I remember doing myself, so the reasoning for why ZFR finds blotunga scummy strikes a chord with me.
So your main problem was his lamist thing and the case was cherry on the top?
ABWOP(Apology by way of post): I realize now that I was a bit heated and possibly a bit rude in post 288....sorry for that ZFR, and sorry everyone else, if I offended any of y'all with that.
avatar
ZFR: Also, even if this was true, it seems a backwards way of looking at things. You don't want to lynch him early becaue when he's lynched early he's more often Town?
Not quite. When he's Town, he's more likely to attract a lynch on D1 is what I'm trying to say. Now that I saw the whole ordeal, this seems to me like just normal GH gameplay. He has these bad ideas, but he just entertains them publicly. Now here's the thing: he does that as Town or Scum. So my takeaway from all this is that his behavior right now is NAI.
avatar
Pookina: He has these bad ideas, but he just entertains them publicly.
Questions if I may: Are you saying my idea this time was bad?

If so, how is getting players to claim range so we can make a more informed choice for lynch a bad idea(overall and also compared waiting until EOD and rushing to get a lynch though same as always)?
avatar
GymHenson: That said, i'll stick to this wagon as we need to get people to claim and wagon hopping won't help with that.
So is there anything specific about blotunga that sticks out to you? Is it same or different than why ZFR initially voted him?

avatar
dedoporno: Is this supposed to be ZFR marking blotunga for death?
...
Hunter isn't really a newcomer, he's a returning player. He may not be a regular participant like most of our cast but is quite capable and doesn't deserve to be cut any slack whatsoever.

....
1. That was a joke, maybe I am gonna finish this man's whole career meme would have gone better lol. At that time I just found it curious how right after blot said LAMIST much ZFR returned to blotunga again said sorry for lynch plus everything that followed so I couldn't resist.
2. Thank you senpai :)

avatar
ZFR: No we don't.
avatar
GymHenson: Barring a scum admitting being scum, we have very little to go on....so yeah, imo we do.
I thought it was considered non-kosher to do that or at least was in the games I've participated.

avatar
Engerek01: I guess not knowing the previous games does have its advantages. I can see everyone from above, from an unbiased, naive perspective.
And what do you see? What do you make of GymHenson's claim idea? As an outsider I guess since I've never seen this idea be received well in any game I have seen here so far, least of all on day 1 itself.

avatar
Pookina: Granted, I think you shouldn't be lynched, at least not right now.
avatar
ZFR: Why not?

I'd put more money on him being scum than blotunga right now.
Correct me if I got it wrong but it seems like your main issue with GH are
- Seemingly opportunistic vote on blotunga
- Proposed claims on day 1

Am I missing something here? If GH is scum, do you think he would risk going against what's generally considered kosher here? (wrt claims)
*A cloaked figure is sitting on the border of the cave, just enough to let light on some papers that he scribbles on. He said while scribbling:"Goris learned something new again this day. This group seemed to have find out some sect mutant that kills others for their believe though they are not sure. Goris will continue to watch to find out, how it will develop.

I don't agree with GH terribly often but this is pretty much accurate. He does that as Town. He did that as Town the game that we just finished a few days ago. I'm not sure if he doesn't do it as scum as I don't think I've seen him being scum, nor I agree that it's great idea but that stance in itself shouldn't be automatically taken as AI for him, in my opinion.
avatar
ZFR: Just to be clear: it's not your assumption that Mafia may not have Day Chat that I have most beef with. Since not all roles are present that's a possibility to keep in mind. It's your surprise at my assumption that I find very strange, given how by your own words you were aware of the existance of the role.

Sorry. Sorry because you just came back to playing Mafia and you were lynched early last game.

Vote blotunga
I don't like your apology at the end of this post, it feels off. If you're Town you should never apologize to someone if you think they are scum as out goal is to find them and lynch them. As for your argument for blotunga being scum the only part that really means anything for me is blotunga saying he was aware of the role possibly being in the game so he should have known that is was possible for scum to have Day chat and have 4 people (4 would be to many IMO though).

avatar
GymHenson: I meant single claims of a few people at most only, and preferably those the player base suspects the most...not a mass claim....plz stop trying to make it look like a worse idea than it is.
UGH! Man I hate role discussion, on Day 1, even with a semi open setup like we have it grates on me. Roles are not what we need to focus on but people's behavior and actions. As for discussing roles bringing someone to the brink of a lynch and them claiming is how most Day's work, but the way you stated it is that you wanted to get multiple people close to lynch so they could claim and we choose the one that we feel is lying. With 14 people in the game the odds are you helping scum more than Town by doing that. The goal is not to get claims but to get scum to trip up and make mistakes.

Gym, you have grown as a player and I like this mindset as it is a very accurate description of how things often happen. I also agree that scum can use this against people that are set in certain ways, I've done it in that past myself as scum. If you're Town trying to figure out who is attempting to manipulate others is what should be your goal instead of trying to get people to claim.

I don't know if you're role fishing or just believe getting people to claim their roles is what's best, but I can't get behind role claiming it rubs me the wrong way.

Hunter65536: So is there anything specific about blotunga that sticks out to you? Is it same or different than why ZFR initially voted him?
Not much if at all...but I don't have much to go on in general, so i'm willing to vote near anyone (barring newbies) so we can get a claim out of them early enough and decide how to move forward.

Of course I am more than willing to lump my vote on whoever the majority thinks is most suspect atm.....as long as we can avoid the situation from last game(where we all got caught with our pants down on several "days" near EOD).

avatar
Hunter65536: I thought it was considered non-kosher to do that or at least was in the games I've participated.
Depends on what you think I meant. If you thought I meant a mass claim: I did not mean that.

I meant we should get the person we most suspect collectively to claim range asap so we can get claims and decide how best to proceed so as to avoid the rushed EOD situation from last game and some other games before that.
avatar
GymHenson: If so, how is getting players to claim range so we can make a more informed choice for lynch a bad idea(overall and also compared waiting until EOD and rushing to get a lynch though same as always)?
1. Scum may make decent claims, obfuscating their tracks. AFAIK this is a closed setup with some ideas thrown here and there in the signup thread.
2. Since it's a closed setup, we can't just massclaim to crack the mystery like you would in a semi-open system.
3. Scum. Get. To. Know. Everyone.

Suppose we're fucked and every Townie in this game is a visitor, save for one cop. Not only does scum get confident that we don't have much power, but we also lose our only valuable role in the whole setup. Even if we had a mix of great roles, scum will be able to decide who to kill at night and I guarantee their choices will "maximize profits," they'll choose a pick that will be most useful to us and most harmful to them, then the next best, and so on.

It's just like ZFR said. Claiming is like the airbags in your car. But if you need the airbags to be always on while you're driving, you're doing it wrong.

avatar
Vitek: So what's so compelling about voting him if oyu don't even know what's scummy about him?
His general playstyle makes him a compelling vote, i.e. something specific to him as a player more than something specific to him in this game.

avatar
Vitek: So your main problem was his lamist thing and the case was cherry on the top?
Yes.
