To be fair, *pulls Micro aside to whisper* I do poorly in these games in part due to being a wee bit lazy(and also note taking in such games really not being thing)....if I took more notes, i'd likely be able to compensate for the poor memory and do even better.

As phalo said, it'd be better for a potential cop to out scum!me (if I were scum) and get me out of the game. That, or wait till I inevitably got lynched.....which usually happens with me in a good number of games sometime after start of D2.

Also, if I may ask, what about the weird capitalization in some of your posts like this one that I quoted?
(like the word today which you spelled out ToDay, or the word overnight which you spelled out overNight)

- if catte is townie
He could be a cop trying to breadcrumb info to other townies (so gymhenson = scum would be true)
Microfish vaguely pointing it out doesn't accomplish anything good IMO.
It would be better to stay silent until he's sure about the message and only then report it.
So Micro could then be scum (or a bad town player?).

- if catte is scum
He could breadcrumb lies to deceive townies (so gymhenson = scum would be false)
Microfish vaguely pointing it out would only raise suspicions.

Let's postulate on if Micro and Catte were on a scum team in this game: if Micro is scum they might've pointed such out to "town clear" Catte and cast shade on myself. Seeing as I am playing better and less likely to get minslynched, this could be a possibility if both are scum.

Also, why would Micro point out potential cop breadcrumbs if Catte and Micro are town? Maybe Micro (sorry micro, no offense meant) wasn't thinking?
(i.e. maybe Micro is town and was trying to puzzle some of Catte's behavior out, and just asked that outright?)
Who knows...it's hard to tell atm, but it gives me something more to think about.

Also in post 38, might be nothing but Micro mentions the name "Holmes", but spelled backwards(near the end). That struck me as somewhat odd, but I shrugged it off for the most part for most of the game.

Could be something or nothing.....that said, I felt I might as well point it out since we're on the subject.

And if we end up with, say, 3 people per house what does that tell us?

Nothing, scum could easily lie about their house.

As for Micro-catte. I think if catte is town micro can't be scum. If I were scum I wouldn't draw attention to town breadcrumbing, I'd instead NK the breadcumber.

That gives us the other option, that catte is scum with micro and trying to get GH lynched. But I don't think that would be beneficial since a GH mislynch would draw attention to this.

So for now town points to Micro from me, though it might put catte in peril. Let's hope we have someone to protect him if he needs it next night.

In every world where a no-lynch on D1 is bad for Town. So, in every world where they play Mafia. ... But I have to ask: Really? You still don't see why no-lynch is bad for Town? Then why do you participate in the struggle to avoid it?

A little hint: 'bad for Town' also means 'good for Scum'. So yes, scum would be happy with just one town dead + no-lynch. It's strange that you don't make this easy connection.

I don't think that ZFR would introduce such an easily recognized and easily used mechanic into his game. ZFR's style would rather be to randomize houses, if they are pure fluff. Yes, according to OP it's not 'other houses against slytherin' this time, but 'Hogwarts against outsiders'.

I'm up for a House-claim, but be aware that that might contain a little danger if houses aren't pure fluff. If, for example, PRs are all Gryffindor or something like that. Who knows. But I'll go with the majority on whether to do a house claim or not.

Hey everyone. Things are a bit better today so I might be able to catch up in the evening. I apologize again for being away like that.

Because that is just speculation and putting all PRs in one house would also be non-ZFR-like. So the danger is probably negligible. Still, it is prudent to go through all possibilities before deciding if a house-claim is a) useful and b) dangerous.

My answer, by gut-feeling and knowing ZFR, to both questions would be 'no'. But everyone is free to make up their own mind.

I know that in one of my first games ZFR came out on D3 and said "the leaves are turning color." or some such. I immediately jumped on this as being an irrelevant "post for the sake of posting" and 3-4 people piled on me.

It turned out that ZFR had investigated someone overnight and had written a message to his fellow scum (ie "if the first word is X, it means ABC is DEF, but if the first word is Y, it means GHI is JKL")

If I had stuck to the question about the rather Innocuous thingie or other, I would have trapped 2-3 scum, as all of them piled on in ZFR's defense, along with another player. I've since observed that every time I see scum and back off because I'm not sure, it invariably ends up biting me in the er... place-where-one-sits.

I know that Day-chat has become a thing of sorts for w/e weird reason, but I am a relic of the not-very-distant-past (ZFR's last time modding?) where day-chat was never a thing and I always approach each game as if they don't have any day-chat and have to communicate info to the team-mates using agreed-upon code in case of of them provides that Day's lunch.

Note: ZFR did not expect to be lunch, he did not become lunch. He told them this so they could be forewarned about Player Y, who was, in fact, a PR if I recall correctly.

You do recall the old adage "4-warned is 4-armed unless you have a 4runner"? (the last 5 words are the bit that no-one ever says). Therefore, there is plenty of reason --and precedent-- to consider this as potential scum-code, and plenty of reason --and again precedent-- for there to be such a thing.

I'm not scum. Believe what you will, but only ZFR and I know da truths....

toDay and toNight are simple. They refer to the Day and Night phases of this game. I use toDay etc to refer to the current Day phase of this game, and toNight to refer to current Night phase (n1 vs N2 etc).

I forget that sarcasm doesn't translate over the net. I do not believe that a cop, having caught scum, would hold back from somehow trying to communicate this in a way that others would see and act upon. This is contrary to their role. You may have a differing opinion in which case i want to hear it.
My comment "are you scum using scum code" was followed by the 9/10ths sarcastic @Phaolo. (and @GH's 502) You are missing the proper connection. I'm town, trying to determine if htis is scum Catte (very low participation overall) messaging his scum-mates, or if this was a simple whim of fantasy (such as the one game where Catte breadcrumbed the entire alphabet in one sentence), capitalization for emphasis, or if this is something else.

In part, I was "yay! I found something! No one else has found it! if I mention it it won't just seem that I'm copying everything everyone else has said but I'll prove that I've been digging!"

However, you are perhaps right in that I should have waited. I hadn't thought about outing potential cop against his will. *cringe*
I hope for our sake he isn't the real cop. I should have thought about that before posting, but I didn't. I'm not an awful player, but I'm not any HSL or the math-obsessed ZFR either. FWIW, I do usually manage to stick my foot into my mouth nearly every game. :-(
I still don't understand why a cop who has found scum would ever be silent, but I guess they migh thave reasons? Again, i'd like to know.

I was mostly trying to figure out a player who I always have an awful time reading, and it kept bugging me (when doing dishes yesterday, I was thinking "what could this possibly mean? what code could this convey? What roles start with S? what modifiers? or is G the modifier? Etc" and after this had been bugging me since first read, I was getting jumpy about it, and didn't restrain from asking outright.

I object. I didn't "vaguely point it out at all!" I straight out tagged Catte (and bolded it) asked what it meant! "Vaguely" would have been "hey, Joe, what do you think of this thing? is it breadcrumbing? code? Catte amusing himself by giving us something to talk about? a joke? nothing?"

I don't like these aspersions on and shading of my character.
