Twilight, I like the explanation. For the sake of my post length, I'll just say my response is generally "Noted" to anything in your response that I don't specifically mention here.
TwilightBard: 1) Everyone is willing to straight up claim town, no one is stupid enough to claim Mafia.
I expect the same, I simply want to see people say it. Ix did suffer temporary insanity last game.
TwilightBard: 2)....Define work together. I'm going to apply pressure with my votes to the people I think are scummy, but I'm not going to jump on some conga line of going from one person to another, that doesn't really get us anywhere.
Fair enough. Might have worked on one person, maybe two, but I already knew it wouldn't do anything beyond that. Oh well.
TwilightBard: Here's the thing, the town can survive without power roles. In fact they have gotten to endgame and won while either losing investigative roles early, or having them be simply ineffective.
But here's the thing, if the power roles exposed themselves, then they are automatically ineffective. Lack of NK causes doubt about the truthfulness of their claim, they get blocked, NK'd, or Hell Mafia could counter-claim and then it's a real mess.
But honestly, the
town DOESN'T need to figure out role information. It's the kind of thing that shouldn't be thrown around willy nilly, because there isn't much benefit to know right out of the bat until it's
actually needed. Does seem pretty damn fishy to say though, extremely fishy.
Clarification on my part: There are two parts to a player's role. Power (cop, doctor, godfather, vanilla) and Affiliation (town, mafia, sk, neutral). Anti-town factions have a list of people to eliminate (any one not in their faction); town doesn't start with this list or else the number advantage would render the game trivial.
As to the more usual definition of roles: Isn't the part I bolded something of a contradiction?
Additionally, I've seen people complaining that mass role claiming ends up making the game boring, and there have been notes on the wiki that doing so can be (if done right) an almost overwhelming tool for finding scum. Note: I'm NOT advocating doing so, especially not at this stage of the game; I'm just pointing out what I've read.
In any event, I'll concede on the importance of roles to town versus to scum. I have specifically stated that I don't think roles should be claimed today, and I'll state now that roles probably shouldn't be claimed tomorrow.
Looks like Trent beats me to having two votes at the same time. Now I want to see what RWarehall and adaliabooks come up with.
