Slippage? Yes, definitely. Getting rid of the 'one global price' policy is definitely slippage. No arguments there. That was a major, defining policy that was right there from the beginning and they canned it. I know they offer rebates, but it still doesn't compensate for the price gouging that many countries now face. GOG was about standing up to bad industry practices and pricing was one of those things that it stood against. It wasn't just the DRM. Not back then.

But there's nothing about the current situation or the general path that GOG is on that in any way stops you from using the site any differently than you could have done back in the beta. Once you've got the payment out the way, that is.

Fenixp: I'm pretty sure it's not a joint venture tho - anyone can use Steam's online API and all that API will do is give GOG list of your Steam games. GOG then just gives you a bunch of free games on account of that. I guess public use of Steam API requires following some guidelines thus change in agreement, but that would be pretty much it.
You're probably right. I didn't exactly look at it closely, as I don't have a Steam account so I don't care much about the whole Connect business. My point really wasn't about Connect at all, all I meant was that I think many GOG users became a bit to eager to immediately dismiss questions and concerns as tinfoil hat type paranoia. Unless someone comes up with a totally bat-shit insane the-sun-is-hollow-and-aliens-live-there type issue it's best to take a closer look and explain it properly, than to handwave it away, even if it seems that someone is making mountains out of molehills.

Breja: You know, while I do agree that a lot of panicking about GOG becoming Steam, Amazon scripts and what have you could be called tin-foil hat paranoia, I also think people here are getting a bit to happy to just call that every experssion of doubt of concern about GOGs policies and future. A little bit of vigilance might do us good. We don't need to go all Lone Gunmen, but some unwelcome changes to how GOG operates are certainly not outsied of the realm of possibilty, especially when big new features like Galaxy, In Development or Connect are introduced. Especially when something is, at least to an extant, a joint venture with Steam.

I guess it might be a Boy Who Cried Wolf syndrome, too many such concerns having been voiced in recent time, often in too dramatic ways (I myself might be somewhat to blame in some cases), but I'd rather listen to some tin-foil hat nonsense every so often, then let some actually issues go by without anyones concern. I'd rather GOG see their user-base as overly sensitive and suspicious of changes, then as willing to let anything slide.
I think it's a little too late for that, the site started out with a very good concept "Good Old Games", a site where you could legally purchase old games certified to run on newer computers. Then the "old" releases slowed to a trickle, and often those released are fairly mediocre (IMO), now it's basically another indie game store with a sprinkling of AAA and random indie movies. Needless to say, that is NOT why I created a GoG account. Yet there seems to be a contingent that are perfectly fine with these drastic changes in tone/operation.

Well, actually it's kind of why I created it. While I love me some of those classic games, I'm mostly here for the new stuff DRM-free, and it's that DRM-free part that key for me. Although I was much happier with GOG before Galaxy client, achievements, In Development etc. I joined for new games, with old shool soul.
