uulav: Your thoughts about this picture?
It was bound to happen, but all we can do about it at this time is to do what's right and keep supporting GOG. Pirating games is not only wrong, it is risky. Pirated games may contain Trojan horses, spyware, rootkits, adware, or any other type of malware, and there is always a chance you will be the one who is caught. To me, the costs incurred from any of these dangers are potentially much higher than what GOG charges for the games, especially with the constant weekly sales.

The only way I want to combine piracy and free games is to defeat pirates in Ultima IV and seize their ships. Of course that is perfectly legal since Ultima IV is free on GOG. It also used to be free on Ultima Forever (the official Ultima website) but now UF sends you to...GOG for your free copy!

By the way, Ultima Forever is how I found out about GOG. They tweeted about Ultima games being made available here, and that's how I found it. I hope all "abandonware" eventually becomes "GOGware"!

spinefarm: Mate there are ppl out there that can't aford bread to eat...so for them is expensive :) 5-10$ is not much...but still I don't believe numbers like that hurt so much and actually I think piracy is helping sites like GOG... do you see a Steam section on sites like that?

Fuzzyfireball: If they can't afford bread to eat, they should maybe think about selling their computer instead of downloading games all day.
Maybe we should send some nukes to US because of the idiots like Obama and corporations in there.. cause of the assholes like that we have money issues in EU :)

I'm pretty sure the US has plenty of nukes, but I'm sure we'll take some more for free.

Dude, those corporations cost me my job as well, and I'm IN the US. Please don't nuke us.
Being melted or irradiated would not be good. As for games, I can't afford many now, but I am enjoying the ones I have and will think about more when I finish them, and hopefully have a job and can afford to buy more.
Until then, I am enjoying the free games on GOG for a while as well as the ones I already bought, and occasionally something when its on sale.

Mate sorry I don't hate americans... I hate your goverment for sure cause it sucks big time. Cost the jobs of many ppl around the world... I used to pirate games. Now I only play what can I afford... and btw pirates sites showed me GOG too. So yes for me this type of things are advertising.
Take a look at the comment section here of the people who were inspired to become paying customers because of Notch's attitude and Minecraft being a good game:

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/03/07/notch-talks-minecraft-development-regrets-and-piracy.aspx

Most people are actually reasonable and can be won over. Though pirates are going to keep on pirating, but the draconian route is not going to convert anybody.

uulav: So you think that its not big deal if somebody is leaking GOG material on torrents sites. I think that people should atleast condemn it.
Not to sound mean, friend, but as others here said it happens so often no one bats an eyebrow anymore. :\

Anyways with GOG's winning sales pitch i'm sure many, many more will buy than pirate these versions put out by GOG.(As a matter of fact on 4chan/etc several people CONDEMN those who put up pirate links to GOG materials and some direct people to the sales pages here, unlike with other games/etc where they don't really condemn it as much. This leads me to believe that GOG can warm even pirate's hearts if they recommend buying over pirating. Yes, not all will be swayed but from what I read from day to day a good number are.) *shakes pompoms*

I actually know a lot of pirates that buy GOG games after pirated them first. So it's a win win anyways...

EdgeZombie: Games are not an essential good, trying to justify piracy in this way is completely invalid.
This is actually fairly untrue, psychologically our species has benefited from games and the social behavior they promote since before we could write. Video games are very much like sports and dice/cards in this respect.

Don't worry about it, friend, I'm not too happy with the government here either right now. I'm even more upset with the media that keeps screaming about how wonderful the economy is when I'm facing life under the bridge. You have a good point about advertising as well. For example, Abandonia is now sending users to GOG.

Video Games actually are a sport this days with all those ppl playing SC2 and CS...
A normal SC2 pro does a 5-6 hr a day training or even more... Trust me to put your brain on that is hard.

The point isn't the semantic debate of the word "sport"...

Agreed. I'm one of them. I still pirate older impossible to buy titles but when I can afford a few games here I send the money GOG's way ASAP(or have someone do it for me until I can afford to pay them back.).

Also some here say games aren't necessary but I say otherwise. Yes you can live without them but I feel they are an essential part of our culture and to miss out on part of one's culture because one cannot afford such things(and one can make their own copy without taking a copy or resources from the one's who made the product, thus depriving them of said product/resources PHYSICALLY.) to me is just ridiculous. (Bear in mind i'm talking about older media/entertainment here, like 10+ years old, where a company/etc has made their money back and then some but won't release the IP into the wild for public consumption while hiding behind crazy-long copyright terms.)

Dude my blog is full of post about GOG and I was a pirate too... I do still pirate tv shows and yes I don't care if people claim me as a pirate.

All goverments suck... but US goverment is not a goverment of the ppl...it's a goverment of the corporations and that kinda makes all US citizents their slaves. I just love how they psycho the population there with awfull news all day every day.
Does anyone still believe that Osama made 9/11 :) It's all bout the money

As I stated many times in piracy threads, the issue people have with piracy is psychological, not economical. They don't like that someone else gets something free that they paid for. They feel cheated and taken advantage of. And they totally miss the point. But with all the fallacies of human behavior, this is probably going to last a bit.
