Why is it that if you click on an advertisement for another game on a GOG installer while it's installing it opens the GOG.com webpage in Internet Explorer? In the 2 years this PC has been built and alive iexplorer has never opened ONCE, not ONE TIME EVER. When I clicked an ad on the GOG installer, for the first time Internet Explorer opened on my computer and made me go WTF?

This is some serious amateur level coding. Please fix this shit ASAP -- and the funny thing is this bug probably affects E.V.E.R.Y S.I.N.G.L.E G.A.M.E Y.O.U H.A.V.E.

I suppose it depends on what programs you have installed on your system, and which one is set as the systems default
program for opening the type of file requested when clicking on the advert/s displayed in the GOG game installer.

This is exactly the sort of quirky ham-handedness that many of us on GOG have come to admire and appreciate. lol

For the record, I checked that out with Distraint. Confirmed, it opens Internet Explorer instead of my default, Firefox.

I don't think it's as big of an issue as OP makes it look like, but it's...something interesting, considering that GOG did drop support for Internet Explorer not long ago.

Makes me wonder how the installs would react if IE wasn't installed in some way or another? Although knowing Windows, it is baked deep into the system to the point where it is not easy to remove.

This also happend to me, I have Oprea browser, after perchasing Pillars of Eternity 2 the other day , I keep geting admin requests for Opera browser to start, (sometimes whilst playing) this happens without having the Galaxy client open.

I didn't know what was going on (still don't) but at least this post has shed some light on what's causing it, GoG need to fix their shit.

Those little installer ad carousels are really out of date in at least one other way -- even new installers still have some old, no-longer-available games (like ARMA) in the ad rotation.

Honestly, though, I never seriously entertained the idea of actually clicking on one of those. : )

They used to be more fun and lively when they had flavor text accompanying them. It wasn't just that "Look, Nox!" but rather "Nox is a timeless take on the Western RPG and stuff" that sort of better enticed you to the games. Once they ditched the flavor text, I rarely even look at the ad carousel now. Nothing interesting to see, really.

No, it doesn't. It will open IE regardless of what Program Defaults are set. I sure didn't appreciate seeing Internet Explorer. xD

DG never dies. We just don't use that URL/forum at the moment. We have a couple active Discords and IRCs. No, it's baked into the installers regardless of Windows settings.

Funny. So the redesigned parts of the site no longer work in IE, but the installers use it regardless, to open redesigned parts of the site, since game pages are that. Admittedly, pre-redesign installers aren't going to "magically" change because the site did, but if that also happens with games released or updated after the redesign, it's... Yep, funny.

So, if you don't have Internet Explorer installed, what'll it do?

I don't have a Windows 10 machine to test on (we do at work, but I'm not there at the moment), but since Explorer is an optional component there, it might fail?

If you check the format of the installers name does it have a name like

setup_game_name_2.0.0.4.exe

Thats the old format installer there is still a bunch of them so more likely to be dodgy have out date games advertised in it.

The new format is

setup_game_name_1.03_(25467).exe

This is still a thing.
Nobody uses Internet Explorer.

I've a Windows 10 machine, never opted for Internet Explorer but it opens anyway if I click on an ad in the installer.

Any update on this GOG? Surprised I never got a reply from you guys.
