Yep, I assumed as much. But I'm not thinking about actually gifting the code, just buying the game as a gift e.g. to myself: I receive the key, I copy the alphanumerical code, and I manually put it up for sale in one of those key sites. Is it possible to do that? AFAIK GOG codes are manually redeemable, aren't they?

Not only is it possible, that is exactly how it is done. That's the only way it can be done, the way the system works.

I see. So, stolen credit cards needn't be involved in a GOG key re-selling operation for it to be profitable. I wonder how does GOG detect (if at all) such cases... Unless the original "price zone" can be directly inferred from a key, there's no way to know whenever a key is redeemed in a different region than the one it was bought in.

Actually, while poking about in the orders page I found I could see the price paid for games gifted to me in the javascript variables, I can't remember if the region of purchase or currency was recorded but they can probably be inferred from the price. So a key code definitely contains that information, and presumably GoG themselves would be able to go further and see the ip / transaction details of the original buyer given any code or purchase if they wanted.

If cross region key selling were to become a big deal here then I'd imagine we would see gifting restrictions or bans put into place (more than the few that we currently have)
