I saw that the new Battletech is up for pre-order, but after opening its storepage, I see that it has Pre-order DLC. What the heck? I thought GOG left this shady business practice to everyone else. Of course, this is forgivable if the content is free for pre-orders but sold at a fee for late purchasers. That is rarely the case elsewhere, especially on Steam, but does GOG keep pre-order dlc (or goodies, too) exclusive?

Where do you see pre-order DLC for Battletech? I only see the standard or Deluxe editions for pre-order.

That aside, they've been doing this for some time if you count 'Season Pass' as DLC pre-roder, which is all Season Pass basically is.

Depends on the game. It's not GOG's decision to release with pre-order DLC, but the publisher and they get to decide if they will then sell the DLC later. Some have, some have not.

In the standard storepage it says "Pre-Order today to receive the BATTLETECH - Shadowhawk Pack which includes an alternate skin for the formidable Shadowhawk 'Mech plus an exclusive wallpaper, to be delivered at launch".
The DLC for pre orders seems pretty minute. A new skin and a wallpaper. I don't see where you get charged for them if you pre order.

As far as DLC in general, GOG has been selling DLC's for years, based on an extensive survey that they conducted where the overwhelming majority here said they were ok with DLC as long as it's done properly.
They have for quite some time. I myself started avoiding games which come with preorder DLC until and if they come with the DLC also.

Holy shit, I totally missed that (scrolled down below the pic to see the info blurb and didn't even see that pre-order DLC line at the top).

And I also totally misunderstand what you meant by pre-order DLC in your OP. Wow, the brain's not firing on all cylinders today... :P

I don't mind about DLC, I just want to know if I can purchase a COMPLETE game in this day and age. DLC will probably stick around for a game, but it's the pre-order bonus that disappear forever. It's really not good for my OCD to know that I have an incomplete product. Even if it is just cosmetic stuff. It's like having a book without a cover. It's still perfectly legible and it doesn't affect the story in any way, but it just feels incomplete. I hope I am getting my feelings across.

Normally not, at least I not that I remember. There are sometime Kickstarter backer exclusive DLC that are not immediately available (i.e. Grim Dawn) but even those end up being available at a later date.

Ok, I apologize, I also misunderstood you.

Most of the time, they include the DLC after the fact, I think? It's very by the dev/publisher. Harebrained Schemes, despite doing a few things I haven't always agreed with, is one of the better devs/pubs out there. Let me find a twitter handle for you to ping...

Ping this guy: @mitchgit he's one of the top dogs of the company. He should answer you, but I make no promises.

For Every Grim Dawn is a NierR: Automata. If you didn't get the "Day One edition" (i.e. pre-order) then the pod costume DLC is gone forever, at least at this point. But they won't even patch out game-breaking bugs. I doubt they'll release anything else for the game. IT's a shame too, because it's a great game, but Square just dumped it and forgot about it.

I wanted to discuss pre-order DLC in general; Battletech was just an example. Thank for the links anyways.

This is what I was afraid of. I thought GOG didn't do this. Now I know that it's basically like Steam in respect to new games. At least previously released games that make it to GOG don't have exclusive pre-order/limited-time content. I await a counterexample lol,

I was talking about games released on Gog not about games with pre-order DLCs in general.

Personally I don't mind too much "exclusive" DLCs as long as it's optional cosmetic things, I get very pissed about it when it's story, missions, or gameplay related DLCs.
