I currently have Windows 7 and am considering the free "upgrade" to Windows 10. Will GOG games work on Windows 10, especially ones using DOSBox?

Has anyone else here switched to Windows 10 from an older version of Windows, and if so, what has your experience with GOG game compatibility been?

Actually, I'd like to know as well since I just upgraded one of my PCs to Windows 10. Thanks from me as well!
DOSBox games will run without problems.

For other games, you'll have to check the supported OS'es under the game's page.

The following games should work out of the box: http://www.gog.com/games##sort=bestselling&system=windows_10&page=1

Ok, thanks. Now I just need to sift through the list (over 1,200 games) and see which of the games I own are compatible. Would be nice if there was an additional filter to remove all un-owned games from the list...

If you want to check which of your games officially support Windows 10, go to your library, select "System" (next to the Search field) and "Windows 10".

Hey, thanks again. That was easy. The interwebs can be difficult from time to time. Turns out all my games are Windows 10 supported, so says GOG. Now to decide if the switch to Windows 10 is worth it or not...
I just run SimCity 2000 on my Windows 10 various times, and I'm sure as hell its a DOSbox game. So yeah.

How are you liking Windows 10? Would you say it's worth upgrading to?

Because Win 8/8.1 sucked and I don't want to get burned again.

I don't see how Win8.1 sucked and all that fiasco, in fact it made me unable to look back at Windows 7 or XP.... unless I had to. Anyways, Windows 10 is pretty great as a system, just that last time I was using Edge, it kept crashing on me, and the mail app is a hit or miss, but the rest is working fine. Say, which parts of the OS do you want to ask about?

How's the overall stability of the OS? Any experience using Firefox with Windows 10 (it's my browser of choice)?

What's the learning curve like switching from Win 7? Win 7 just feels intuitive (I've been using Windows since 3.1) and Windows 8/8.1 didn't feel "right". Just weird, like Twilight Zone/alternate dimension version of Windows.

How do the rest of your GOG games run on Windows 10? Any problems?
My experience with Win10 has been...meh.

Some games (X-Wing '98, Messiah, Shogo) only work with additional fixes like dgVoodoo or DXWnd. Others (Rainbow Six, Interstate '76) refuse to work at all.

Games that run on DOSBox or ScummVM will of course work without issues under Windows 10. Similarly, major recent titles that are designed for Win8 and Win10.

But when you limit the selection to those games where compatibility fixes are actually needed - Windows games from 1996-2001 - that's where compatibility goes sharply downhill. It's a little disappointing as it's specifically with these games that GOG's compatibility fixes are most needed. DOSBox and ScummVM games can be fixed by anyone using the original disc. Windows games are less easy to fix without outside assistance.

Ok, this is really helpful. This is the kind of info I was looking for. For example, GOG says Rainbow Six and Shogo are both compatible with Windows 10 (I own both).

Any idea if Windows 10 compatibility fixes for GOG games are scheduled in the near future?

Actually, Windows 8 and 10 are excluded from both. It just so happens that you can download them through Galaxy anyway.

I have no idea if compatibility fixes are planned. I sure hope so. I at least have Shogo working temporarily with dgVoodoo. Rainbow Six is pretty much a lost cause.

The OS has been very stable for me. That is besides a blue screen of death in the beginning, but that was because of me using outdated drivers from the laptop's driver disc back when I didn't have a proper internet, out of desperation. If you're wondering, I sat at a café and downloaded Windows 10 over there and then came back home.

As for the learning curve, the learning curve in Windows 8 itself is just a mere 5 minutes if the Modern interface got you away. The learning curve will apply to the new features of the system, such as multiple desktops and search and the notification center, etc. If you're talking about the Start Menu and this kinda stuff, they should work like its Windows 7 peer but with Windows 10 Universal apps, and unlike its 7 peer, it should be scalable. The only thing you'll need to learn is using the new Settings alongside the old Control Panel. The Settings is more of a section that is friendly for touch and desktops alike.

As for the rest of my GOG games: Beneath a Steel Sky worked well, and so is Rise of the Triad, Freedom Planet, SimCity 2000, The Witcher 2 and Torchlight are all working on the new system. If you're curious about other games not on GOG, I only ran to Final Fantasy VIII as a game that I wasn't able to get working on 10.
