Hey all,

Been a PC user my whole life, and will continue to be. Have a huge collection of GOG games. Also have a new iPad.

Is there any way to play any GOG games on iPad? Specifically Wizardry 7 and other old dos games. I have iDos, the dosbox for iPad, but I can't figure out actually gettin games into it. Lots of games say they are Mac compatible?

Thanks in advance :)
Nope. Binary incompatible.
But - you can salvage/use the data files of some games for which there is the same engine compiled on Android/iOS/Whatever. Like, ScummVM.
But (2). I never heard of a dosbox for iOS. Keep in mind they have to INTERPRET all of x86 processor code on that thang, which is cpu intensive as fuck. Some DOS games with high resolution (e.g. system shock 1 before it was remastered) even bring a sweat to modern Desktop CPUs.

Ah, ok thanks, that is what I figured. I got HoMM2 running ok through a free Remote Desktop but it isn't worth it.

Appreciate the rely. Idos seems legit at least w jailbreak...
I have not yet tried with Idos, but I have seen several gog dos games run very well on dosbox for Android. It works great with chromebooks that support the play Store.

Good luck with Idos.

Which GOG games run very well on Android?. ^_^
Any dosbox based app should work.
dosbox itself is focused on IBM PC emulation, so ARM cpu is not a problem.
Now that you can deploy on local devices, if you have a Mac and Xcode you can build and install the OSS version of iDOS (DOSPad). It's a little complicated but it should work.

Nope, you would need to recompile the exes of each with:
InAppPurchases SDK
Advertising AddOns
TrackMyEveryClick dll's
SignUpForMyDetails distribution service

The original SS1 resolution was 640x400, and you call that "high resolution"? Then your idea of a "modern Desktop CPU" must be a Pentium 3.
You should come visit 2016 some time! :-D
If iDOS is anything like Dosbox, it shouldn't be much of a problem at all.
The simplest way to do it would be to download and install the games on your desktop first.
After that, go into the folders, and ignoring the dosbox files, copy the files of the actual original game onto your iPad, and run them through iDOS.

I think there is even a thread/wishlist with touch-friendly games available on gog that you can check out.

MacOS and iOS are completely different things. Woah ok, I just saw what an old thread this is. Ah well, I'll post this anyway since someone else already bumped it.

It was high resolution for the time, I think that was AlienMind's point.

It's too much effort to do all these imo. Especially on a proprietary system like iOS, and no gamepad or keyboard to even play.

GPD Win. That's your answer. In fact it's on sale now at GeekBuying. Damn I wish I had the spare cash.

There was an exe patch to bring that up to 1280 plus the dosbox emulation isn't that good for multicore but even then it would still be much sweat because it's a real emulation not just running the same code like e.g. vmware does.
Ok, here might be the explanation:
http://www.dosbox.com/information.php?page=0

DOSBox also emulates CPU:286/386 realmode/protected mode, Directory FileSystem/XMS/EMS, Tandy/Hercules/CGA/EGA/VGA/VESA graphics, a SoundBlaster/Gravis Ultra Sound card for excellent sound compatibility with older games...
System Shock runs slow because DOSbox emulates a relatively slow CPU... NOT because a modern CPU can't handle the emulation.
