Alright GOG, what the hell. You were supposed to be the chosen one. Deliver us from DRM and whatnot. Yet here we are, with me wanting Ashes of the Singularity, then finding out that
A) I *have* to use Galaxy to play MP, which especially in dev is the only way to keep it interesting

and

B) I will not be able to play the game with people who buy it from other stores

I get that B is at least partially the fault of the developers. Why they wouldn't take the approach that PA did when they're obviously going for the same market is beyond me. But in that same way that it's partially their fault, it is partially yours. By creating a segregated ecosystem for MP, which yours is by the way ECLIPSED by Steams, you're shooting yourself in the foot twice over. You abandon the concept of DRM-Free, and then ask me to choose between a huge community for MP or a minority community.

I'm sure we'll see someone try to rationalize A with an argument along the lines of "you don't have to play MP if you don't want". You're technically correct, and technically an ass. I'm not going to buy a $50 RTS for singleplayer, and to suggest that *anyone* would is ridiculous.

I would, and I have, bought an RTS for singleplayer.

How else do you expect multiplayer to be handled?
And why is that GoG's fault rather than the developers?
They've chosen to implement multiplayer in a way that requires a client (Steam or Galaxy) so there's not much GoG could do about that other than refusing to sell the game (which would be stupid)

Ditto. It was even an RTS that was primarily designed with MP in mind.

I never play multiplayer on the PC, so I really don't see where the ridiculousness comes in.
I play RTS games *EXCLUSIVELY* in single-player mode.

Wait, you can't play MP with Steam players?
This was evident since they jumped from "GoG Galaxy Alpha" to "GoG Galaxy Beta" on the release the of The Witcher 3.

It's just another piece of the puzzle alongside the thing "One Price for One World" and other broken promises due publisher pressure.

It's the only thing I buy them for, as I don't play multiplayer. So, yeah...

Multiplayer is for the ''birds''and so are most clients,so I stick to singleplayer and have fun.
See? I may not be so ridiculous after all. Gotta bookmark this thread.

So another 'online play requires internet' complaint thread. It has to be said that the average IQ has dropped a bit around here.

I was thinking 'reverse evolution'.
I also rarely do multiplayer.

Yeah. The days of directly connecting to someone are almost gone. In a lot of cases, the developer probably uses Steam API's for multiplayer. I assume they do this because it's easier. Galaxy probably also uses Steams API and/or naming conventions and catches the calls so developers don't need different builds for different stores/clients to handle multiplayer/achievements.
