[EDIT: September 9th, 2pm GMT]

Update 1.1 to the GOG Galaxy beta is now available for everyone! Enjoy the new features and remember to submit your feedback in the dedicated GOG Galaxy Beta forum thread and report any bugs at mantis.gog.com.

Rollback, friend search, pausing downloads, and more in the biggest update yet.

Have you tried the GOG Galaxy beta yet? This is an awesome chance to jump on board. Our DRM-free online gaming platform has already been tested by so many of you we can barely count, and today we're ready to roll out the first major patch with new features and plenty of quality of life optimizations.

Update 1.1 to the GOG Galaxy beta will bring the anticipated Rollback feature, allowing you to restore your game to prior states with just a single click. Game updates are now not only optional, but also reversible.

The weeks following our GOG Galaxy-powered release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt were a chance for the team to collect feedback and to work on perfecting the Client while addressing many of your top feature requests. The newest 1.1 update includes much-requested improvements to the friend system (making it easier to find and invite friends), pausing & resuming downloads, extended pre-installation options with more ways to configure your games, and an improved app UI and navigation. The entire client will now be more resource-friendly while also becoming faster.

The 1.1 update is available today for everyone enrolled to receive preview updates through GOG Galaxy, but it will also be rolling out very soon to the entire userbase. Those of you eager to test out the announced improvements today, can simply navigate to your GOG Galaxy settings screen and select the option to “Receive preview updates”.

To download the client and read about what’s new and improved in update 1.1, visit www.gog.com/galaxy. Make sure to subscribe to the preview updates to try them out yourself, and as always, you can submit your problems and find new solutions on the dedicated GOG Galaxy Beta forum thread.
No linux love?
this penguin is sad.

real.geizterfahr: Interesting how the search feature works with and without punctuation marks. I can search for real.geizterfahr and for realgeizterfahr. That's a big improvement over forum search *hint, hint*
The forum search (and, IIRC, store search too) is already like this: is simply pretends punctuation doesn't exist. Which causes a whole other set of problems....

JudasIscariot: Because it's impractical to host all of the old offline installers (some game have almost 30 offline installer versions because of frequent updates) all at once and would do nothing but create extra work for us and confusion for everyone else.
Perhaps a compromise could be considered: for certain titles that you have people asking about repeatedly (such as Terraria), you could make previous-version downloads available in a separate "page" accessible from the dropdown menu in the game's Library entry (like the one containing the old Downloader links, or the one displaying any serial keys).

Who knows, this might be one of those things a lot of people don't even know they want until somebody starts offering it. It could even become a bit of a selling point for such games: "Hey, don't buy that on Steam -- over on GOG it's the same price, but you can also play a bunch of older versions that some of the older mods still work with!" I would imagine that the pool of games that are new enough for GOG to have access to a bunch of different versions AND that more than a couple of people would seriously care about playing older versions of is pretty small, so it would limit the number of titles you'd have to do this for. Of course, you'd still get the complainers wondering why stupid Game X comes with older versions as bonuses, while the much, much better Game Y only has the most current version, and probably even some people demanding ALL OF THE VERSIONS for ALL OF THE GAMES, EVEN THE THIRTY-YEAR-OLD ONES, but, then, complainers gonna complain.
Looks great on high DPI displays now, thanks guys!

hohiro: You already can choose where the games are cached while downloading for quite some time, its called "Download games to" in preferences. The games will be loaded there, getting installed to the folder you specified and then removed from this directory.
Doesn't work. It may install games to the folder you want, but It still at least partially caches downloads in progress to the C: drive no matter what you do, The folder on C: increased in size whenever I downloaded updates.

These are probably not the downloads, but the database things of Galaxy stored in the Programdata Path, don`t like it that much, because even here it uses 1GB, but the downloads always are cached in defined folder, just checked again and it went there.

Edit: Checked this folder a bit more and have to say for some games updates and some save files are there together with build infos and such. And wow, this folder is way tooo big. 1GB for 80 Games on my SSD where i have set all to my HD
, you are right :)

ashwald: I see an option in the privacy settings on the site to allow other users to "search for me by username or email". What does that mean practically? Does it only affect friend invites or does it toggle our visibility in normal forum searches as well?
avatar
Destro: It is related only to friends and chat functionalities, hence grouped under "Friends & chat" section :). It does not affect forum searches in any way.
Could you perhaps make it two different checkboxes? Because people searching for me by username is fine for me. But I surely do not want them to be able to search by email.
When can we expect a Linux version? This is frustrating, as a paying customer. I won't buy any more games until it is. Tired of having to fight my OCD because the tarball isn't an installer, so the games don't get put where they belong, organized.

I'm debating whether or not DRM Free is even worth having if I can't have them properly installed. I'm debating wiether or not I even want to keep buying games here, and just go buy the same games I already own again on Steam, so I don't have to keep fighting my OCD... I do not use Windows and I will not go back to it. I don't care if others think I should, I don't like having something I don't own that I'm going to use regularly... Windows isn't something the user owns, instead Microsoft owns it, and you pay for the right to use it, that is a fact and is why I use Linux. I will not use Windows just to use a proper installer. I will move on if this doesn't get resolved. I've been waiting patiently.

[Deleted. Brain fart... Dig a deep hole and bury my comment. It was too stupid to be seen by the public *embarrassed*]

Yep that sucks, I made a feature request to change that.
Somebody else made the same request a month later and got all the votes.
That also sucks.
a quick Q. I have updated my withcer 3 with the latest patch (manually) but for some reason the galaxy doesn't recognize it. Every time I want to launch the game from the galaxy it says update is available....

Calm down man, I haven't touched a windows/apple machine for years , and god knows I will never go back there.
So I know how you feel about this issue.
I have been making my own packages for pacman using the tarballs. Even worse is the lack of tarballs for some dosbox games & native ports... It could be better, OK.

But there' are a couple things I would like to point out...

1. You say Windows is a NONO because the user don't owns it (which is true) but just before that you were questioning the value of DRM free software (?)
2. There's no need to be hostile nor issue threats and ultimatums. It's useless, really.
This kind of behabior gives bad name to the (small) community of linux "gamers". And It's childish.

please report the issue to mantis.gog.com with all possible details, will look at it.
I like what I have seen of the update, but really hope you implement some way to minimize the library list on the left that takes up too much real estate when its not needed. I want to view full page of the store and forum etc, till then I will continue to use my standard browser and only use galaxy to start games and download. Which beggars the need for it to be so memory intensive, right now its running higher than firefox.

OMG how did they even manage that XD
