Did you update/restart Galaxy recently? As of the new update released a few weeks ago Windows XP and Vista are no longer supported. I also use Vista and this looks like the error I was getting.

I wanted to use the latest version.

Is it official that XP and Vista are no longer supported? What is the reason for that?

So how shall GOG support a platform which isn't supported by the dev anymore?

Do go even one step further, imagine XP would have a serious loophole that a hacker could exploit to extract account information out of Galaxy.

If you want to keep using Galaxy then you will need to reinstall the old version and never let it update, ever!

For the record, GOG never supported Galaxy on XP or Vista before, hoewver previously the program could be installed on XP and Vista and would potentially run because the various software Galaxy uses under the hood such as Chromium Embedded Framework would work on those legacy operating systems and GOG didn't do anything to purposefully prevent people from running Galaxy on XP or Vista however running Galaxy on XP or Vista was never officially supported.

GOG made it clear from day that Galaxy was technically "available" but not "supported" on XP and Vista all along, and that eventually it would lose the ability to run on legacy OSs. A few months ago they said that they would soon be updating the Google Chromium Embedded Framework in order to gain support for new web features etc., and that when the time came it meant that Galaxy would no longer run on the old operating systems as the new CEF was no longer available on XP/Vista. In the last few releases GOG introduced a new video codec for H.264 video playback so that Youtube videos that were previously not working could now be viewed, and it appears they have updated CEF and/or some other components, at least one or more of which no longer can run on XP/Vista. As such they announced that Galaxy will no longer work on XP or Vista going forward.

People using the legacy OSs can install an older version of Galaxy client to get by for a while, but chances are that eventually the database format or something is going to change in a future update causing the old clients to not work any more either. This happens fairly often it seems causing a normal upgrade of the client to fail and requiring a complete reinstall of the newest version from time to time. I suspect eventually one such update will have server-side data that isn't compatible with the old beta clients.

So far people affected by this issue seem to choose one of the following solutions:

1) They upgrade their OS to Windows 7 or newer so they can continue to use Galaxy.

2) They switch to using GOG Downloader or the website for downloading and updating games instead and forgo Galaxy for the time being.

3) They try out gogrepo.py community based solution for downloading their library.

4) They go into an angry rage and throw a temper tantrum in the forums hating on GOG and swearing they'll never buy games here again like a whiny little cry baby full of entitlement that just had their baby bottle taken away from them, often being rude and abrasive to the people who merely shared the information with them as if they're personally responsible.

That's a rough summary of the paths that I've observed people to take so far. I'd estimate for those who have vocalized their solution anyway, approximately 25-30% seem to take a calm approach to the situation and choose option 1, 2, or 3 or a variation thereabouts often with mild disappointment but understanding. The remaining 70-75% seem to take approach #4 until their diapers are changed. :)

I have, for the time being, just reinstalled and older version of Galaxy and am focusing on installing games which are episodic or have a lot of DLC. It seems like the stand alone installers have issues when there are multiple components like these. For example, I recently installed some Sam & Max games from TellTale. When installing via the downloaded file I get 5 seperate shortcuts on my desk top for the 5 different episodes. Using Galaxy I get one shortcut which brings up a menu asking which episode I want to play. I don't see an obvious way to get this menu outside of Galaxy but I'd much rather have 1 icon that 5. When I installed Dragons Age Origins with the stand alone file I didn't have any DLC, reinstalling it with Galaxy added all the DLC to the game. I'm sure I could find information online for how to get these installers to work properly, but why bother with an offline installer if I have to go online anyway to follow step by step instructions?

It seems reasonable to expect that since many games offered on GOG actually run on XP/Vista (for example through DOSbox) that there should be a "legacy" version of Galaxy which offers only basic functionality which was present up to the last version of Galaxy which run on these operating systems....

Question: Where do I download the last version of GOG Galaxy which runs on XP/Vista from?

I tried to do that and it seems to me that they removed all the older versions.... The version I am looking for is 1.1.15.13...
