Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

Hi everyone,

- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store

- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu

- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Why does it keep forcing itself to start when windows start? Everytime I start Galaxy it resets the "start when windows start" option.

Also, why doesn't Galaxy detect all games*? I rename all my games folder to something short during installation as I don't like long path locations so it might be because of the yet it does detect some of them.

*Exclude non-supported games.

File a bug in mantis.gog.com for that perhaps.

The first comment in the thread covers this.

Do you mean regarding compatibility? For example, Consortium seems to be supported (I can download it via Galaxy at least) yet it doesn't detect that I've it installed.

If the folder name doesn't match the Gog Galaxy install path name it won't detect (Ie if your copy of the Witcher is installed to "C:\Games\Witcher" and the Galaxy path is "C:\Games\The Witcher Enhanced Edition" then it won't see the game.
Hi!

Must I report games that need to be tweak after downloaded through Galaxy? And how can I do that?

There's a category "Content" when you create a ticket on Mantis. Choose that and it will be assigned to someone from our Product Team.

mqstout: * SHORTCOMING: When downloading the standalone installers, as well as extras, it all gets thrown into one bin, the selected "extras" folder. It doesn't create sub-folders to keep things organized as the current GOG downloader does.
It does for me; maybe you've encountered a bug.
When I started up Galaxy this morning, I noticed it started downloading an update for FEAR automatically. It appeared to be about 0.7 MB in size. Feeling suspicious, I went into my library to check on this update, and found nothing but the installer I downloaded weeks ago when it was released on GOG.

So I'm wondering if anyone else had this, or if it was a bug?

Installers that you see in the library view (standalone installers) and the games that you see installed and detected by the Client (games synced with Content System) are two completely different and separate things. As we are working on games compatibility with the Content System, it is perfectly possible that you will see a small auto-update happening for an installed game while there is no change whatsoever in the standalone installer.

If the update happened just once, It's very likely something perfectly normal. If you however had a case of some perpetual update happening on every Client start, then likely this indeed would be a bug :).
I have suggestion, Galaxy should feature a back and foward button in the galaxy in client store. Its kinda annoying losing where I was when clicking on a game to see some info on it. Its kind of a basic feature that's kinda weird to not have. And having log to show us how much time we spend on a game would be cool ,but I guess that's already planed.
Been testing today, everything seems to be working for now.
Waiting for new features.
Also linux client, please :3

It should auto-update yes if you have restarted it & are online, and the current version is 0.4.0.717...

EDIT: As pointed out, or for anyone else that reads this... you got to manually update for 0.4.0.717, which I forgot. :/

There was an update not long ago that needs to be done manually. Just download the galaxiy client from your library again, it it the new version.
