Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

POLE7645: OK. I just installed the client for the first time. But, do I need to uninstall and re-install my entire library to make use of it?

And I installed Chaser just to test it, and the download seems to have doubled in size. I know I'm late in the party, but am I missing something?
For now yes, the client does not yet autodetect all GOG games previously installed via standalone installers. There are a small number of newer releases that allegedly will show up, but most wont. That will change over time as they continue to update the client and the installers however.

Good idea to read or skim through previous posts in the thread, as a lot of common things are already answered previously.

Hope this helps.

TheH2s: Will the community forums be embedded in the client in the future?
At some point they definitely will be, but for now we're focusing on Client-specific features.

There is no compression yet for files downloaded via install option, so for some games it can result in a bigger downloads this way. We will improve this in one of the upcoming releases.

OK. Is there an auto-detect (even if it only support a few games) on? If so, do I have to trigger it? And is there a list of games already detected somewhere?

I'm just curious because not a single one of my games were detected.

No, Xwing and TIE fighter will get picked up if you have them installed, and possibly a small number of other recentish titles that were already enhanced with new packaging. I'm not aware of any list anywhere but it's more or less a bit of a fluke more than anything at the moment IIUC. They've stated that in the future the client will detect such games installed manually though so it is intended to work like that eventually, just not quite there yet.

Also, games that are installed via Galaxy may potentially vanish from the installed list on a client update. That happened on the most recent client update for me where I had about 8 games installed in Galaxy and they vanished when I did the upgrade to the new client. I just uninstalled them manually from the control panel and reinstalled via the client although that's likely to be inconvenient for some folks. Just one of those oddities of alpha testing developmental software... :) Hopefully future builds wont do that though or I'm going to slam up against my monthly ISP cap rather quickly doing this testing and that's not desirable. :)

You don't trigger it. Re-installing a game that has had it installer updated to be compatible with Galaxy will trigger it. If you go to library view and see what games that you own are supported in Galaxy, chances are the standalone installer has already been updated for those games to support Galaxy. It's a hit or miss though . Just re-download the installer and re-install. There is no list also.

Galaxy will technically recognize a supported game that is installed if you press install again via the Galaxy library. It will normally only download what is needed for Galaxy to function. This isn't really supported yet by GOG and will cause issues with certain games, but most will work though. So I would not recommend doing that, especially as a new user.

BKGaming: Not sure if GOG wants us to report such things or not. But someone has done what GOG has asked us not to do and posted a long video on youtube of Galaxy. Clearly someone can't read or doesn't care.

are there any other games besides AVP 2000 that currently support multiplayer? I was playing Unreal Gold the other day and noticed that even though I installed and launched it with galaxy it still connects to gamespy

I *believe* AVP, The Witcher Adventure Game, and Double Dragon are the only ones. A developer has to update the game for GOG's MP to work with their game, so in most cases only newer games will probably function as far as MP in Galaxy goes unless Galaxy offers a feature to direct connect players like Tunngle or GameRanger.

I don't what anything reported actually, rather I asked if GOG wanted us to report such things if we see it because they asked us not to do that. That's not the only video on there showing Galaxy.

actually it could be done by editing unreal gold\system\unreal.ini
here's the section that would need editing to change from gamespy to another server

[Engine.GameEngine]

ServerPackages=Female1skins
ServerPackages=Female2skins
ServerPackages=Male1skins

[UBrowserAll]
ListFactories[0]=UBrowser.UBrowserGSpyFact,MasterServerAddress=master0.gamespy.com,MasterServerTCPPort=28900,R egion=0,GameName=unreal

but regardless changing master0.gamespy.com;www.epicgames.com;master.telefragged.com should get a new online play working

I'm not saying it can't be done, rather I'm saying that is not GOG's job. GOG does not modify/ remove / change how a games MP functions. That is up to the developer of the game. GOG has stated this when they got accused of removing LAN from AVP for Galaxy MP.

Larian was allegedly going to support Galaxy multiplayer with Divinity Original Sin slated for the end of August, which was what was originally going to be holding the game up from being released on GOG.com. The game went ahead and got released here earlier than that though due to popular demand, and August came and went but I don't think they ever did enable Galaxy multiplayer support for it, perhaps they're waiting for the full Galaxy services to launch with achievements system and the whole 9 yards before enabling any Galaxy features. That's the only game I can think of with any mention of Galaxy features other than the ones BKGaming mentioned above.

Ok, what your thoughts on GOG possibly changing the Unreal.ini file to support galaxy multiplayer? do you think it might happen or should I just go ahead and install the 227i patch from oldunreal.com to play on multiple master servers that are up?
