Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

xordiw: First I am sorry for being asshole and not reading all posts in topic, but it is really too much. I just wanted to ask the question about multiplayer games and servers. Will gog add servers for the games they host? For instance Unreal Tournament?
I doubt it, Developers will have to update games to support the framework.
Is it possible to support cloud saves for all games in Galaxy Client? If that happens, I have no reason to use Steam.

That's a cool feature but we do not support it yet in the Galaxy Client :)

wtf gog can you plz stop installing malware on my pc this also calls home with god knows what so much for closed beta just install avp 2000

edit: also the installer dosn't says anything about this only avp shortcut install location
It's not a malware, the GalaxyClient.exe app you're mentioning is a Launcher to the AvP game not the full GalaxyClient. It is required only for the multiplayer portion of the game. You can uninstall it and launch the game without it and play single player.

skeletonbow: Oooooooooooooo! Features! And the nailbiting suspense begins! ;oP I wont hound y'all as to what they are but will definitely be anticipating it! :)

One thing I want to mention that just came to mind, is one of the features I like about the Steam client is that it tracks your gameplay time to give you an estimate as to how many hours/minutes you've spent playing a given title. In reality it isn't completely accurate as it appears to time the amount of time the executable has been running whether or not a game is started, paused to make dinner, fallen asleep at the wheel, etc. but it is still a nice guestimate to have.

Fallen_Zen: This feature is definitely coming to the Galaxy Client, not in the upcoming release but eventually it will be there.
yay. Really happy to hear that!
Question: Can i install games offline in the Galaxy Client like the Standalone Installers?

Hey Fallen,

Like Steam I assume Galaxy will eventually offer achievements directly within the client and share-able via our profiles. I know they were one of the thing mentioned during the announcement. Do you know if any achievements we get now in TWAG will carry over to the client/profiles when that get officially added? Would like to know before getting a mess of them as I'd rather not have to start over.

(yes I admit to caring a little to much about achievements... Lol)

dewy60: Question: Can i install games offline in the Galaxy Client like the Standalone Installers?
Not atm. The current version of Galaxy downloads and installs the files at once, it doesn't offer the option to download stand alone installers yet. If you do install a game though and then launch Galaxy, it should properly recognize them.

Not particularly. There are several games that install to a folder named differently than the Galaxy folder install (The Witcher 2 installs to The Witcher 2 from Galaxy, and The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition from the installer) and those won't be detected. The ones that use the same folder to install will be detected and be accessible through the client.

Thus the should part ;)
I do assume that renaming the folder will be enough to recognize it, but probably game dependent.

Nah renaming the folder should work for those games, done it with a few games already. Just creates the issues of the game technically being installed twice. I recommend copying the game folder, uninstalling and then installing via Galaxy with the copied folder renamed and placed in the GOG games section.

Please tell me there will be an option to set the Galaxy client to show the English store page, and not the German store.

I may be on a German IP, but it doesn't mean I want German :)

Please considering cloud save support. I've had major issues with Gamesave Manager, the program created symbolic links inside my backup folder and I had to move saves back to the original game folder by hand.

EDIT: It seems that I can't edit out unrelated information from my message :(

Because I'm using Galaxy Client, does GOG.com Downloader have any use for me? If Galaxy can download all games and extra content, I think not :)

Galaxy does not (yet) download installers, so if you want to back those up or install the game on more than one computer, the downloader may still be of use to you.

If you mean the link by gabranth99, that is not the Galaxy client. That is the Galaxy framework that is included with Aliens vs Predator. To get the Galaxy client you have to be an alpha tester and then you grab it from your library. To become an alpha tester, read the first post.
