Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Going to report in Mantis, but installed Witcher 2 even though it was already installed, and it's downloading the files now. The install location is set where my current install of Witcher 2 already is (i.e. E:\Games\ and witcher 2 is installed to E:\Games\Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition)

Redownloading is also happening to me for Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. Deus Ex and Street Fighter Alpha 2 installed with the files I already had.

Sacred 2 also works fine with previously installed files.

lefantome89: when can we expect a new build? I'm excited to test new things
Getting new functionalities is rather a long task, so we don't push new builds very often (with the exception of a critical or important fixes). I wouldn't expect a new release in the next few days.

Not yet. We'll let you know as soon as we have any information to share.

Grargar: Hello Bispo. As noted in the first post of this thread, not all games are currently supported on the alpha version of the Galaxy client. As the client is updated, more and games will be supported.
Well to be honest a client update has nothing to do with games being compatible or not. Product team is making sure that the games are compatible with the Galaxy Client. So new games can show up in the client's library almost everyday.

We can check that but probably the installation you've already had wasn't compatible with the client so it couldn't detect it and assumed it wasn't installed. Nevertheless thanks!

You mean that nothing changes on the user's end?

Exactly, the only thing that's changing for the user is that more games are visible in the client's library.
Product Team pushes compatible games to the content system and that's it, the client now is able to display and install them.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

mike_cesara: Used to use sleep instead of hibernation and keep my laptop up this way for days, sometimes even weeks. Galaxy does not reconnecting itself for me as well and have to do it manually everytime. Never faced issue with store or library you've mentioned though. Usually leaving Galaxy on random community pages, will try on a game page tonight and see what happens.

update:
No problems at all, even auto-reconnected for the very first time I belive.. (not so sure about, keeping Galaxy open in systray and usually have to reconnect manually)

update#2:
Leaving client on game settings page did the trick, had to restart to get connected.
So I'm not just hallucinating! Good to know. My ticket is #1133, don't know how it works if you can add to it or if it just remains there. Would be good to have confirmation logged somewhere officially though.

SCPM: Looks like a new batch of games have been made Galaxy-compatible, I'm seeing Grim Fandango, the Cinemaware titles, Desperados 2, Original War, Freespace, and more in my library now, though I may have overlooked some of those originally.
I see a complete lack of the LucasFilms game Outlaws on my copy of Galaxy. I know it hasn't been added to the store yet, but not having it for sale is not a valid reason for not having it for sale!
;-)

Ok, back to serious posts again.

Actually same happend to me. Installed The Witcher 2 from GoG's installer in \The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition path and Galaxy didn't recognize it. After changing installation folder name to \The Witcher 2 Galaxy downloaded only redistributables and updated links, now game works without redownloading. Already reported in mantis.

Well, can be group hallucination ; ) Already tried several times and it seems I get the bug only when leaving Galaxy on a game settings page for some reason. I will add my note in mantis about.
Hi :)
I just tried to install RACE DRIVER: GRID from the client but the antivirus stops the process because:

<<
20150129 164610 File "P:\Giochi\GalaxyClient\Download_path\1207659233\Language Setup.exe.download" appartiene al virus/spyware 'Mal/EncPk-AAK'.
20150129 164615 File "P:\Giochi\GalaxyClient\Download_path\1207659233\Language Setup.exe.download" è stato disinfettato.
20150129 164615 Virus/spyware 'Mal/EncPk-AAK' rimosso.
>>

Meaning he's found that virus (is it?), cleaned the file and removed the virus..
Meanwhile the installation has stopped :/

Should I go with the classic "download the files and then install it"?

Your AV got a false positive, update it or get a better AV.
Damn, how the heck did I miss this thread for so long! :D

Thanks for the response, I'm still testing the Windows build of course, but can't wait to have it on Linux. Thank you again. :)

Well, I gave my email so hopefully I'll be able to test it eventually...
