Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store
- Option to Show Game Folder added to MORE menu
- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

I am so happy to see this Galaxy launch.
Got my Alpha invite last week, many thanks. Then I decided GoG deserve maximum respect for doing this so I went out and bought a new 2TB HDD to celebrate. A special HDD for all my GoG games and I do have a Lot of games here. lol

Client is now installed and i gave started downloading some of my GoG games.
First thing I noticed is that I have to re-download them all again even though I already have all the .exe installs saved to my HDD. Maybe this would be something to address by the time you get to Beta.
Otherwise in the future as more games get support I will have a hell of a lot of re-downloading to do again. (gulp)

I like what I am seeing so far. :)

Cant wait to see what other features you have planned.

Just a suggestion here, but i would love to test the functionality of your Store in the client, so have you considered making a few of your games $2 for a limited time for only Galaxy Testers only so we can check the store stability etc. ?

The last point for now I think is worth mentioning for future updates.
As with all classic games modern resolutions can be problematic (ie: fit to screen) so maybe you can get you programmers to look at this so we dont have to mess about in our registries etc.

You shouldn't have to re-download all your games, at-least not completely as long as you got Galaxy pointed to were your games are installed in the settings. It defaults to C:\GOG Games I believe. There are a few games which it does re-download the entire game which is an error caused by the folder names being different. Most should work fine though.

Can we get a heads up on when to expect a download manager indicator showing Download speed, and estimated time before download is to finish?

Dralel: I don't have time to sit through and read every single message and this has probably been requested before...

But I'd like the client to have a taskbar icon in the corner of the screen, next to the clock/date. It just doesn't feel right having this program open on the taskbar in the middle of other programs I have stickied. A small icon in the corner would look better I think.
I've already asked about. It will come sooner or later. You may use workaround for the time being like Tray Minimizer. Personally I use to use AnVir Task Manager which comes with several other useful tools.

Hey I started up the client for the first time in probably a few weeks and noticed I can't seem to access my library. (Clicking on "My Library" does nothing.) Anyone know what's going on?

Strange, which version of Galaxy do you have ? did it try to update (it should have as it was updated recently) when you open it ?

If it didn't update you can try to uninstall/reinstall it.

EDIT : I mean uninstall and reinstall the last version.

Hey guys. Just passing by to promote this wish. We've already seen this on Alien vs Predator and Double Dragon, and it's awesome. I don't know about you, but I would love to see more multiplayer supported oldies on Galaxy servers.
First Bug to report.
Currently I am Downloading and installing all my games currently available in Galaxy.
All is going good until I got to Duke Nukem Manhattan Project
It downloaded just fine but as soon as the game starts its install regime my AVG goes nuts reporting a file is a Trojan and keeps trying to delete it. As fast as AVG deletes it it comes back and it keeps AVG going crazy trying to delete it.
The only way to stop it is to uninstall the game.

For me its not a problem because i have the game on Steam anyway but it is probably worth GoG researching this.
I cant tell you what file its is sorry because it goes too fast at about a delete per second.

Check your virus scanner log. It will tell you what the file is. Also, report this on Mantis.

does the same thing happen when you install Duke Nukem Manhattan project from the GoG installer after a traditional download?
AVG pointed me here...
http://www.avgthreatlabs.com/virus-and-malware-information/info/droppergeneric/?name=Dropper.Generic9.ZHR&utm_source=TDPU&utm_medium=RS&PRTYPE=IS

and yes it did it with the previous manual download, but I can "ignore" it installing this version
Just downloaded the newest Galaxy client for Mac on a clean system. It immediately dies with "Fatal Error: Failed to load Game Database"

-- Edit I have submitted this to Mantis and waiting to see a workaround. Apparently its fixed but not yet pushed to production.

I seem to have some weird interferences with the Steam client.
- During start-up of the computer, they seem to fight. Galaxy usually wins, I have to kill the Steam client and start that one again.
- When I click the Steam icon on the taskbar, often enough, the Galaxy client window comes up instead of the Steam one..

I'm sure some people would see that as a feature. :-)
Hi,

I'm in the final stages of my Gaming focused Linux Distro, and would like to know if there will be any legal issue in having Galaxy as one of the default preinstalled applications? Basically I'm asking about the Distribution rights of it.
I really like the features that allow me to open manuals, readmes, settings and support webpage from a click on the game page in the client.
