Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Back/Forward navigation in the Store section
- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store
- Option to Show Game Folder added to MORE menu
- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account
- Fixed some issues when installing and uninstalling DLCs
- Bugfix: client will now not allow dragging elements onto its window

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Problem here... :/

I can't install any of the 31 games I have available in the Client. Each gives me an error - "Installation failed: out of disk space.". I have about 20+GB of free space on my SSD, just to be clear on that, and none of the games I have requires near as much.

Please advise... :|

Have you tried setting the install/download location to a different drive?

ScienceRobot: hmmm interesting a lot of you guys have had the download pointer issue. I have my GOG on my D: and by default it's still pointing to D: for the games
Mine was pointing to my default GoG install folder from the installers. I think if you've downloaded a recent release and told it where to download, the client read that. Or there was a registry entry made from testing AvP2000 classic since it had a "barebones" client version for MP.

Venom: Hi everyone,

if you're using the mac version of the Galaxy Client, and you weren't automatically updated to version 0.2.2.619 please go to http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=1111 and and attach your logs (as a note), as we're trying to isolate the cause of this issue.

After that you can download a new Galaxy Client installer that was just updated in the My Account section.
The Windows version still isn't updated.
The auto-update worked fine for me, but afterward, game installation hung after I tried installing several games, necessitating a quit and restart.

Also, I had some issues with screen redrawing/rendering of the games in the Library; while the games themselves loaded, the actual names of the games didn't load (which just left games in a list of icons with blank names until I hovered over them with my mouse cursor).

I've uploaded a screenshot here: http://cl.ly/image/3x123e0I1132?_ga=1.175063079.466671575.1380577538

Maighstir: I assume not, but just to make clear, are only Windows users eligible to test, or are reports from Wine/Crossover (Linux) users of use as well?
avatar
Venom: There will (eventually) be an official Galaxy Client for Linux, so there will be no need to use Wine/Crossover.
Unless I'm missing something, even with the native linux client there will probably still be demand for the windows client under wine for those games that are windows only and known to work well under wine.

BillyMaysFan59: Quick question: has anyone tried running the Windows version of Galaxy in Wine?
I have tried (twice now) and had absolutely no luck whatsoever. I am not a wine expert though. It installs without issue but I've not been able to get it running.

Szulak: Please report this issue on mantis (and attach log files please, if possible).
Did as instructed.

omega64: Have you tried setting the install/download location to a different drive?
Yeah, no change. :/

Venom: Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

We’ve already conducted some internal testing, and now we’d like for the Client to face a wider array of software/hardware configurations and Internet connection types. That’s where we’d like for you to come in - and help us run more tests. :)

The first stage of this test is Windows only. A separate OS X alpha will follow in the coming weeks. (Linux will follow - eventually, but it’s in the works!)

In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

Back to Galaxy!

The features included in the alpha release (in other words, what we want to test):
-- client installation
-- application basics (resource usage, responsiveness, stability, user interface)
-- the auto-update function
-- installing, updating and launching games* via the client (without a standalone installer)
* not all games are currently compatible with the client, so you’ll only see the compatible ones in the alpha version of the Galaxy Client.

Features NOT included in this release (planned for subsequent releases):
-- an embedded GOG.com store
-- a better library view
-- managing DLCs, language packs, and auto updates in the client
-- downloading standalone installers and bonus content
...and more!

If you want to participate in this test, we expect some feedback from you (after all, that’s what this alpha is for!). Therefore, we expect you to have some time to test the client:
-- download and install the Client app and log in to your account
-- install/uninstall as many games as you can
-- know how to access various logs and try different problem solutions as needed
-- report any bugs and issues in our internal reporting system
-- participate in discussions with our staff and follow their suggestions/requests

Yes, that does require some technical knowledge and a bit of your time. If you don’t think you’re the best person to test out the Galaxy Client in its alpha version, don’t worry! There will be a public beta once we finish this stage, when you will be able to check out the Galaxy Client without any extra requests from our end.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

We know about this issue and are working on resolving it. Thanks!

RadonGOG: Ah, I see! So there will be a new downloader as well at the time Galaxy launches for public? (I´ve got the test-version!)
From what I recall, Galaxy will replace the downloader.

avatar
RadonGOG: BTW: Will Galaxy get an additional feature to keep the installer in the download folder and do not automatically delete it?Course that´s the standard way for it right now...
From this post:

avatar
Fallen_Zen: You cannot yet download standalone installers, DLCs or bonus content but this will be added later.
Galaxy doesn't delete installers, because it doesn't download installers.

Just signed up and looking forward to testing this out. I was on Witcher Adventure and Alien vs. Preditor Betas and both worked out great. =)

Genre and arrow does not appear for games until I mouse over them.

I want to report bugs in mantis but how do I actually get to it. xD
Does anyone have a link?
