Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Back/Forward navigation in the Store section
- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store
- Option to Show Game Folder added to MORE menu
- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account
- Fixed some issues when installing and uninstalling DLCs
- Bugfix: client will now not allow dragging elements onto its window
- Fixed memory leaks, causing to crash the application when downloading lots of games
- Fixed a bug which was causing the client to crash on exit
- Fixed an issue, which sometimes caused the client to duplicate the news on game view

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

I just downloaded the Galaxy Alpha and only half of my games are showing in the Library. It shows 12, but I have 24. Any idea?

Geralt_of_Rivia: That's normal. Galaxy is still in alpha stage and doesn't support all of GOG's catalog yet.

Will we be able to scan for already installed games in our chosen library? I have a few games installed with mods that I had to reinstall because the client didn't know they were there.

It does recognize my installed games if i tell him the actual install patch where the game is. All my games (Steam, GOG, others, etc) are in "C:\Games", so the first time i launch Galaxy it already knows where to install my games, and those already installed it just check the files or something like that, because it fill the download bar very fast, meaning that it does not really download any but checked the game files.

Maybe the mods you installed have replaced several files and Galaxy wants to download the whole game in order to get in running.

EDIT: It seems it keeps some kind of registry of installed games, cause i have checked installing games with the GOG installer having Galaxy closed, and now it knows which games are installed when i open it, it just check the files and update it in case is necessary.

Another question: Will be be able to set alternate launch .exe files in the client? Particularly with games like Red Faction where I'm running it from a separate launcher for mod support, or Risen where I use the mod loader exe to launch the game I find having it in the client does me zero good since I still have to launch from my shortcuts.

That's a good question. Changing the executable or its parameters that get started when you press the play button isn't supported at the moment and I don't remember reading that in the planned features but it could be useful in certain circumstances.

I suggest you file a feature request on Mantis.

That would be a good feature to have, as well as the ability to add a icon/background pic for any third party shortcut we add.

Maybe we should just have them request to integrate Launchbox with the thing. :P I use it for my games anyhow, but I figured that having the client be well rounded couldn't hurt.
Is there some way to get Galaxy to recognize the supported games I already have installed? And is this going to fix the infamous "uninstall a single game and it wipes your entire compatability list in the registry" bug?

If I'm not mistaken, that should be possible already, provided Galaxy isn't overzealous on checking and fixing its files. In the game folder, open goggame-{gameid}.info with a text editor and look at PlayTasks. You can change the Path parameter, save the file, and it should work. The problem is that Galaxy might detect the change and download the original file. I don't think it checks hashes, though, so you can get away with it if the new "Path" is exactly the same character length as the old, so it doesn't change the file size.

Alternatively, I believe it can also accept .lnk instead of exe values, so you can make a complex command line in another shortcut, say game.lnk, then use that in place of the proverbial game.exe in the info file.

You are right, these files should be customizable.

As far as I know Galaxy doesn't constantly check files though when you have a problem with the game and choose to use the repair function I'm sure the file will be checked and replaced with the original.

A built-in function to change that in the Galaxy client would be good to have in the long run but I guess advanced users can simply modify these files since you shouldn't usually have to use repair that often.

Greetings again.

Sorry for being away for a while. My internet connection is spotty, slow, the christmas vacation haven't started yet and I haven't yet found a way to completely turn off Bitdefender.
I'll try testing the client some more during the christmas vacation when I have more time and hopefully more stable internet.

There will be some kind of functionality to import supported games that were installed outside of the client. The client could also scan selected locations and import games that are found, we'll see what will work best :)
How about to install from a local GOG installer instead of downloading directly from GOG? Or will I need to activate my GOG installer and then tell it to scan installed directories to add the game?
