Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Back/Forward navigation in the Store section
- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store
- Option to Show Game Folder added to MORE menu
- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account
- Fixed some issues when installing and uninstalling DLCs
- Bugfix: client will now not allow dragging elements onto its window

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

working so far so good for me, can't wait for the updates ;)
Has anyone on the alpha test received the actual beta test yet? Just curious if it's been held back for a final build due to a last minute need to fix something or if it is indeed out but simply being throttled due to demand overload. If some people have it and some don't then throttling seems more likely. If nobody at all has it, then either they didn't release it yet or they did and revoked it to fix some glitches. I'm guessing it's one or the other though, but it would be nice to get an idea when it'll show up even though I know that is most likely not easy to nail down. ;o)

I was going to ask the same. I've been in the alpha since december and no update yet.

Fuz: Please add an option to directly close the client when you click on the "X" instead of minimizing it to the systray.
I haven't even gotten the client yet and I'm seconding this. In fact, I'd prefer the option to not even have a systray icon at all (I think the taskbar icon menu is a superior option, if you really insist on a quick menu). The only time I ever use the one that Steam has is to close the application (since they also do the minimize to tray on close thing) and to very very rarely go to offline mode.

I like it the way it is. My only complain is this notification balloon "GOG Minimized...", appearing every time i close Galaxy's window.
Guys, i started Galaxy 20 times already. I know it, i know!

I'm annoyed by the "minimize to tray" behavior, too.

That's not what the large, friendly, red X is supposed to do. It's supposed to close the application.
If you want to minimize an application, there is already a default button for that. "Minimize to tray" should be implemented by having an on/off option to switch the functionality of the minimize button between "minimize to taskbar" and "minimize to tray".
Edit: It seems the beta isn't actually available yet.

Galaxy hasn't updated itself here to the beta either yet.

It depends. For example i for sure do not want X to close my Pidgin chat program to close entirely. X just minimizes Pidgin to tray, so i can still receive messages from contacts.
And it's window is not bothering me in the taskbar. All i see is just a small icon in tray, which changes it's appearance when some event occures (GOG does the same - good!).

It is out there in a limited numbers and the current alpha users will get it tomorrow likely. Key reason for this is that last week we've extended access to Galaxy alpha to all the owners of The Witcher Adventure Game, Alien vs Predator and few other titles, so the number of people with access to it grew from thousands into hundreds of thousands... And as all alpha users started with the same update channel, updating one person with auto-update would update everyone else, making it impossible for us to do a slow rollout.

So for now we have a smaller group of people testing and tomorrow afternoon we should push the update to all of you.

If it must be... kind of bummed out about that though. Wanted to test it today while I'm home. At-least I can stop restarting Galaxy now. Lol

:P

Wow, thanks for the detailed explanation Destro! Very much appreciated as now we can all go about our day without button-mash restarting Galaxy and hoping for the best. hehe It makes sense to do it the way you describe in light of the info you've provided. Definitely looking forward to the beta tomorrow and also now that I'm freed from clinging to the site I think I can go make some food and actually eat! LOL

Have a good night. :)

My first thoughts about a large red X, would be to want it to be a crosshair with which to shoot people. If it is in an instant messenger like pidgin, then definitely a crosshair! ;o)

i got a mail indeed with a code, and i am certain i printed the mail as a pdf and txt file...

but on win7 its near impossible to find files eventhough they exist in a folder, never had that problem in XP, only in win7, files simply arent found while they do exists when i manually scroll through the folders on the drive.

I am eager to see what f-ups windows10 will bring us when it arrives and when we have to move to win10, because mickeysoft wont fix any security holes.

anyways i guess i have to manually check every folder for the pdf with the code....
