---

Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store

- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Goodaltgamer: Please check ticket 938 ;)

JMich: I assume you mean , not [url=http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=938]938, right?
Either way, time to download Spelunky it seems.
Nah I think he did mean 938, that is his ticket... I think he was trying to point out there are errors that may mean you would need to re-install everything and being on a metered connection with the alpha is a bad idea. Not sure, that's what I took from it anyway.

968 is my ticket, if you install the entire game through Galaxy (ie without an standalone installer being used first) let me know how that works... ;)

Monster Bash that was already installed worked fine, currently trying the steps you've listed for Spelunky, but it doesn't have a patch. Did you use 2.1.0.9 installer, or an earlier one?

Edit: Monster Bash wasn't seen in Galaxy automatically, though Spelunky seems to have been imported correctly. Let's see if it runs fine or not.

Edit 2: Spelunky runs fine. Could it be you had an older installer? Though Galaxy should have updated it with the proper files.

Any game that you bought that is listed in your library is Galaxy Client friendly, these are the only games I was referring too. Spelunky and Stargunner are both Galaxy Client friendly... both had issues, and became broken installation when using a standalone installer to install them.

That may be the issue... I forgot GOG updates installers but doesn't flag the updates. I'm using Spelunky installer 2.0.0.6 with patch installer 2.0.3.9.

I bet that is what it is being as Banished, UnEpic, and AVP were updated not that long ago so there newer installers.

NO, the second part.....

And I am not sure, if we SHALL copy & paste their comments here!

Hence I refrain from copy pasting it.

And I just saw your reply.......so I removed what I just typed, with a lot of sweat running down my shirt ;)

What I will leave, you propose a fact, which isn't a fact.

And just read:

Features NOT included in this release (planned for subsequent releases):

-- downloading standalone installers and bonus content

So IN THE MOMENT it might work or not, but that is pure luck ;)

Good point, removed quote. I don't know what relevance your trying to make here then. Sorry.

Your missing the point, that's not what that is referring to or what I was talking about. There talking about replacing GOG downloader with Galaxy, meaning Galaxy won't grab standalone installers or bonus content for you yet.

I'm talking about using installers I already have downloaded, installing the files and having Galaxy grab only the changed files need. Galaxy is suppose to do this in it's current version. I've been on GOG for a long time, I know how it works. ;)

EDIT: Sorry for the DP.

No Prob, as I said, nearly happened to me as well

For the rest, look in 938:

I didn't do that either honestly... talking about bugs or things your experiencing with the alpha is not giving reviews or first impressions. Just saying. ;)

Thanks to JMich I now believe I know what is wrong, would not have happen if I didn't post what was happening to me.

This must not work for every game yet, just games GOG has updated the installer for or something. Thanks to Goodaltgamer, I can confirm Tyrian 2000 does not import even with the latest standalone installer. Doing so will get you a installation broken error.

Used setup_tyrian_2000_2.0.0.11.exe to install, Galaxy didn't recognize it at once. Clicked to install, downloaded a bit, then it popped up that the installation was completed. Clicked play, game run just fine.

So, time to do more checking.

P.S. Going to check UnEpic now as well. Don't have Banished, and AvP worked fine. Are there any other titles to do the same check as well?

Edit: setup_unepic_2.7.0.12.exe installed, Galaxy started, game was seen. It said Unrecognized version, then it started updating, downloaded 2MB. Game is working.

Could it be that something prevents Galaxy from copying over the files it downloads?

Win7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Hmmm I'm testing on an old PC with Vista 64 bit, I figured it may be due to UAC so I gave both the Galaxy Client and my install directory full rights and it still results in a broken installation for Spelunky.

EDIT: Pretty much any game that Galaxy doesn't automatically detect, ends up as a broken install.

EDIT 2: Installed Tyrian 2000 directly from the server using no standalone installer, installation still broke. :(

This does seem like an access issue. Unsure if it's the source or destination directory that is causing the problems.

Does the Tyrian files remain in the ProgramData folder or not?
