Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Client looks nice and runs smoothly, but I have an issue: GOG galaxy alpha client doesn't recognize games I have already installed prior to the client, and tries to download what I already have in its "GOG Games" directory.

Nevertheless, you guys are doing a great job! Keep up the good work!

I noticed this problem, too. Is it possible to implement detection of already installed games? I know Blizzard's Battle.net client does this well. Is this feature being planned?? I really don't want to have to re-install all my games!

Thanks for all your hard work!
Hey can I be added
I just got into the Alpha and installed the client. Here are the three most important questions to me:

1. Can I import my installed games into the client? I've got several hundred GB of GOG games installed, and am wondering if I can get the client to realize this. I tried specifying my current install folder for GOG games as the install folder in the client (this is how importing games after a re-install of Steam would work there), but nothing happened. Am I forced to re-install everything through Galaxy?

2. Can I display my library in the client as a continuous and compact list? Right now my library extends over 9 pages and is kind of a pain to navigate. In Steam, you've got three ways to display games in your library (see the "View" option in the upper right of the Steam client), and as far as I can see, Galaxy is missing the one that I would like to use the most.

3. Is there a way to create custom categories for your games? Steam implemented this feature not too long ago, and (unless I've missed it somewhere), I'd really like to see it in Galaxy as well.

Well I can answer the first question 1. yes but it won't reconize all your games yet.. just click on the + sign and select scan and import folders and then point it in the places where your games are located, again this won't work for everything for example Worlds of Ultima Savage Empire and Martian Dreams will not be recognized unless you change the folder name to just The Savage Empire and Martian Dreams respectively, don't ask me why.

2 and 3 I don't know about since this is still Alpha and alot of things are planned are not implemented yet and possibly won't be since a far as I know the point of the Alpha testing is just for us to test out the update functions, installing and running games via the client. So unless one of the Blues can tell you, you may have to wait till the public beta. But I honestly wouldn't think they would leave out basic stuff that most clients have nowadays like Libary management with custom categories and all that jazz.
Hi,

Just got into the alpha and tried have tried installing/re-installing Galaxy about 4 times now. Even restarted to my annoyance, but, it's alpha so I get it. The client refuses to start, giving me the following message (pic attached):

Essential components needed to start GOG Galaxy are missing. Please reinstall the application.

Am on Win 8.1 64bit. Ideas?

All I can say is: be patient. We are going to address both of these :)

Hi there! It works pretty well so far, but is there a way to make the color scheme more contrasting when using the forums? I have some light difficulties reading text and find myselves leaning in towards the screen because the text and background aren't contrasted enough.

Edit: Found the color schemes less than 5 seconds after posting this, the auminum fixes my reading problem but the white burns my eyes haha. Any plans on adding darker tones?

Reinstalling it in the same place is kind of a 'meh' solution. Anyways, for any future users, I managed to fix this by uninstalling Galaxy, then bruteforce searching the registry for any keys mentioning Galaxy/GalaxyClient and deleting them, and then searching and deleting any Galaxy folders left behind in AppData and ProgramData, followed by a final restart. A more thorough registry check needs to be implemented for the client or alternatively leaving less crap behind in registry.

I keep checking my email hoping "today will be the day" ... sadly it is still not today, yet.
I can't seem to download Outlast for Mac, as soon as I click install, just tells me that the download failed due to server problem.
*Sigh* Is there going to be no alternative but to use the inferior Wiz Gold through the client or will we have the option to download and play the DOS version of Wiz 7 via the client? and I don't mean as a downloaded extra.. honestly I still don't know why you put the dos version in the Extras and made Gold the main version. It really should of been the other way around.
hi so with the new update if I have already downloaded and installed a gog game in the past I just need to go to the game and click import folder (in the glaxy program) for it to be able to launch from within the program right?
