Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Back/Forward navigation in the Store section
- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store
- Option to Show Game Folder added to MORE menu
- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account
- Fixed some issues when installing and uninstalling DLCs
- Bugfix: client will now not allow dragging elements onto its window
- Fixed memory leaks, causing to crash the application when downloading lots of games
- Fixed a bug which was causing the client to crash on exit
- Fixed an issue, which sometimes caused the client to duplicate the news on game view

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

I just signed up for the alpha test; really looking forward to it. My plan is to start by testing the recognition and update of games already installed with the standalone installer and afterwards, the management of the installation and updating of games from the client. Is it possible to know in advance which games are currently compatible with the alpha version? I'd like to test it with as many games as possible.

I hope this happens 2015 Q1. The update situation needs to be amended ASAP. This shouldn't be further delayed because of puny features like integrated Twitch streaming and what not.

lukslo: Tried with the AvP which I had already installed with the standard gog installer, it seems that it does run a check (you have to have the same install folder setup in the Galaxy client).

Liosan: Yes, that's exactly how it works. If the client happens to find an installed game at the target directory, ti will do a scan and check for files that are already on the hard drive.

We have a feature planned which would allow you to inform the client that there is an installed GOG game on the hard drive :)

I posted this on the bug tracker, but this appears to not always work right. While AVP, UnEpic, and Banished all worked fine doing this. Two other games I've tried, Spelunky and Stargunner have resulted in broken installations. Just a note for anyone else installing games via standalone installers.

Did you actually read what I said? First of all, I'm planning on downloading most of the games on my shelf and installing them *before* having alpha access. Once I get my hands on the client, I'll point it towards the folder where the games are installed. Then, I'll try to update them via the client. I don't see anything stated against this; in fact, some users already asked on this same thread if this was possible (I recall someone mentioning the AvP installation), because some ISPs have bandwidth caps, some users cannot afford to redownload the games again via the client. And that is why I asked about a list of the currently compatible games, to know which ones to download in advance.

Edit: that said, I'm not looking to download the standalone installers from the client.

same goes for metered connections and similar, it is all standing in post 1.

The later version shall do, what a lot of people expect (same goes for me), that the Galaxy client will check the install directory for installed games, but not in the moment. Unless you mean a later version and not the current one.

For metered connections: For a test I reinstalled like 5 times one game, only all complete like 8 Gb ;) and one other guy was downloading 18 Gb......that's why they mentioned, not for people with metered connections.

The client right now checks for installed games, so it is supported... I know this because I've done it. It's just not working right for every game. Which needs to be fixed, so it needs to be tested. AVP, Banished, UnEpic all worked fine by installing from standalone installers and allowing Galaxy to finish installing. This cut my download down to like 20 MB for the Galaxy update that was needed.

The post in regards to metered connections was likely referring to the fact you can't stop or disable auto updates in the alpha. So if metered it may cost you data.

I get what your saying, but the feature is there and is supported by Galaxy. A GOG staff member already stated this. This is the point of an alpha to check the features and fix what is broken.

Also that doesn't mean you can't successfully use this with a metered connection. You just have to be more careful. GOG didn't say you can't use it on a metered connection just that you may not want too.

There is actually ways to stop a download, but doing so makes the client lose all installed games (or with the way I have found that works). In those instances having the ability for GOG to reconfigure files already on my hard-drive saves me big time from re-downloading during install.

Right now I'm just testing the smaller games I have until GOG release a patch or two to solve some of these issues... ;)
